I reside in USA. Most of my grandfather's family remained in Europe. They originated from the village of Rudnia.
Bartoszewicz- Kowalewski
The other surnames Syrena mentioned are in my family also. If you happen to be at the Rootsweb website, I have a ton of posts on the message boards there, easily found by doing a message board search for Bartoszewicz.
The person I had exchanged email with lived, or has parents in, Melbourne. I have found relatives in Adelaide Australia as well.
I did a search for Bartoszewicz at Rootsweb, and it showed my posts, but most of the old ones. A search of the message board there for Naliboki is more effective. The posts by Gary are more recent, and the ones from 2004 & 2005 have my correct email address by clicking my name.
M - Are you related to Gary? I am!! Gary and I share the same ancestor: Michal Bartoszewicz..Here's how it goes between Gary and me: Michal's son Tomasz was Gary's Great Grandfather and another of Michal's sons Wincenty was my Great Great Grandfather. So Gary and my mum are 3rd cousins down the line. I'm guessing the relatives in Adelaide you speak of are my mum's aunts/uncle and their offspring.
I had no idea!! It takes a little time for me to catch on. I'm also thinking that KS is a cousin of mine. Here I was thinking I met get a chance to chat with SOMEBODY I don't know on this forum!!! Any way - how are you and your family? I'm doing well, all my 'treatment' is over and I'm in stage 2 of this crazy life.
You are a busy beaver! I'm wrapt with info I learnt from you... so thanks! I'll be getting in touch soon with relatives on my father's side by email in Brzesko so I hope to pump them for more info - they may know more of the story.
My family are Adamcewicz. My mother came over with her parents in the late 40's. Later on more cousins came from Naliboki. Those other names you mentioned are familiar. Many settled in Nassau County, New York, specifically around Glen Cove.
Hi Sisterowl - I know of some Adamcewicz's in Adelaide, South Australia - in a suburb called Mansfield. There was also a Franek Adamcewicz living in NewPort, Melbourne ( has since passed) who was somehow related to those in Adelaide. Do you know of them? I dare say they also came froma round the Naliboki region.
No, but I'd be terribly excited to know if they're related, as one of my good friends lives in Adelaide. There's a good chance they're cousins. My great uncle was called Franek, but he and his wife never had children. Most of the Adamcewicz clan I'm familiar with is in New York.
I just spoke to my mom, who told me (and this is the first I'm hearing about it) that America and Australia were the two top picks for their immigration choice. Apparently, I DO have cousins in Adelaide, that I never knew anything about, so if anyone needs information to fill out the tree, let me know and I'll do what I can to help.
America and Australia were the two top picks for their immigration choice
Yes. this is true. Looking at when poles emigrated it seems like Australia was very popular in the 1950s and 60s when the 'flood gates' were opened to Europeans to help increase the Oz population.
Well, apparently how it worked for my mom's family is this. Families already here sponsored and helped pay expenses for families in Naliboki who wanted to leave. No one wanted to sponsor my grandparents because they had so many kids (8 or 9 at the time), so other people in the village, or whomever, were trying to get them to go to Australia on their own and then start to bring people over once they had settled in. But now I'm really curious to know how I am related to these people. My friend in Adelaide gave me directory assistance and I may write some of these people to find out.
Hello. My father was born in Jankowce, Poland and my understanding is that all the records were indeed burned during the war. The correct spelling is Jankowce, but the Ukrainian version is spelled and pronounced Jankivtsi. It is near Lesko.
Some Lemko from Jankivtsi landed up in selo Zhnyborody > Buchach district > Ternopilska oblast > Ukraine. What surname are you researching? mitehelp@aol.com
There were Miszuks living in Jankowicze up to WW2 before they were packed up to Germany for forced labour. (see straty.pl). The only Anna Miszuk I know of came to Australia with her son and daughter and grandchildren in the 1950s - i think. Her DOB is 8 Dec 1883. Her son is 79 and is living in Melbourne. But as KS posted - there is quite a bit of family.
