Does anyone know if there are any records (or where to locate them) of any villagers from this town?

I understand it was burnt down by those nice german soldiers during WW2 and now would be in current day Belarus.

what time frame king? early 1900s? prior to that? later then that?

poland changed so much, so many times. when you mentioned jankowice
I was thinking malopolskie, the way to get the records is writing the parish
but you have to make sure cause now there are more churches.

Krysia can probably locate more then me with this one. or even Wroclaw.
I am better with states. but I did get docs from poland.

anything up til the 1940's, my family really know nothing of their family name heritage as that town was burnt down and most records destroyed with it. i can only go back as far as my great grandparents.

What last names are you looking up?

for some reason jankowice sounds so familiar, like I have searched around that
area, but I am not positive. I know of Jankowo which is near Lomza.

Maybe It was "Americanized" and original version is a bit different ?

that is why i was trying to locate the town records to find out what the original spelling of my name was.

i dont think it was americanized as i reside in australia and have the same spelling as those in america.

its just my username, sobieski was the general that freed Vienna from the turks way back in the day. maybe you are a descendant of him.

I swear I heard that town name a gazillion times before.

it was in my mums words, some lil back water village that got destroyed by the Germans in the second world war.

im not sure i want to post my last name over the internet considering there are very few people with my last name, in Australia especially.

lol ok well email me if you want to not post the names online, understandable. :)

if not thats ok too, ive got ancestry to, but they don't help with Poland, that is
google searching, then I randomly email and get good responses. they send me
theirs and I send mine.

have you ever did a search in the FHL of the mormons site?

have you ever did a search in the FHL of the mormons site?

how would mormons help me?

i think i really need information from that town and hopefully trace my history back that way. finding similar names in the US makes probably wont get me there.

yes it could, because name spellings come up differently. never say never :)

Mormon site has a history center, they microfilmed tons of stuff in Poland.

you can do a town search and see what is microfilmed. do you have a local
history center?

ya know what I will check and see if you have any in Australia.
if you do, you can order these films and go copy the records of all folks pertaining
to your last name and figure it out from there.

pretty sure you will find something :)

King, these are all the Jankowice microfilms they filmed.

king, this is all the australia centers, so you do have resources.

I couldnt list them all, Admin would get mad at me for using up so much
space :)

but if you go into the genealogy sticky links, I posted the mormon link there
once you get into the site, go to the catalog section, type in the place etc

it also shows locations of family history librarys, you have alot in australia.
if you need any more help with it, I will be happy to direct you :)

ok, heres some more interesting reading about Jankowice, jankowo, which I do
have some ties to a town name jankowo, but prob not same name.

and seriously , these mormons can help you find resources, I am not kidding.
They did this for that reason (microfilmed).

Could the town in question be Jankowicze?

Jankowicze is located southeast of Naliboki. Naliboki is located about midpoint between the cities of Lida and Minsk, in Belarus.

King, you will definitely get help from the Mormons (Family History Center).
That is how I knew when my relatives came over from Poland to USA.
FHCs are worldwide. The help was freely given from the center I went to.
In USA, we also have internet use of ELLIS ISLAND immigration records.

lds.org.au

using low case letters (latter day saints)

I know what king is saying, cause he doesnt have that far back so he would be
more then likely looking blindly at records.

if you get a definate on the town name and location, you can write to the church
if someone can get the address?

anyone willing to help KS locate a address of a Church so that he can write to them
and get some records?

KS: I am also looking at my ancestry and have found out a bit about mine who also came from Jankowice/Rudnia (Belarus) area during that time. If you're from Melbourne, register on GaduGadu forum on the DziuplaMelbourne site and we can chat there.

Syrena,
You mentioned Rudnia in your post. My family is also from Rudnia. It was a very small village. Maybe we're related.

Hmmmm - you never know!! My parents told me it was a pretty small place and it also looks like that there were some major family groups who married into each other - surnames I am interested in are Klackiewicz, Bartoszewicz, Emilianowicz and others such as Miszuk, Adamcewicz, Staszkiewicz. Any of those ring a bell?

Syrena,

Maybe I am thinking of someone else. Hmmm..I have all the surnames in my family that you listed, except Miszuk, but I have heard of it.

I exchanged a few emails and old photos with someone in Australia in regards to the surnames mentioned, and thought maybe it was you.

In regards to the original thread of Jankowicze: I believe people living in Jankowicze, if Catholic, would have attended the parish church in Naliboki. Unfortunately, the original church was burned in 1943. The LDS website only lists records for this parish for a couple of years, around 1850's, I think.
