can someone help me to findout how i ask for help in finding family information in poland, do most read english or do i need to learn polish or what language? my gf from austria galicia poland. my name is marilyn drzyzga, from usa im 70years old. father is theodore drzyzga b. us 1919,mother or father didnt want me, so i lived in unwanted childs home, until i was 17.
but my gf and gm immigrated from poland in 1913. neice found info from ellis island records. we cant understand them or find ur country on internet. can someone help. in usa, for example i was born in detroit michigan. im from detroit, michigan, united states. how does ur country and my family country work? piotr drzyzga 1889, from poland, then says country austria galicia then place of birth jasmowice, *spelling is maybe wrong). where is this? thank you. your pole cousin in heart, if not in understanding.
there is no Jasmowice on google maps so I guess that it could be a misspelling of Jasnowice town (Śląsk Cieszyński area) pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasnowice en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Al%C4%85sk_Cieszy%C5%84ski
Margarina is weird name. I'm Polish and never heard such name. In Poland word margaryna means only a oleomargarine. I've even checked in a dictionary if it was some forgotten old-fashioned name but unfortunately no. So I guess it's also a misspelling or was changed by a clerk on purpuse.
I think it could be Małgorzata (Margaret). I don't know any other polish name which ressembles even slightly Margarina... maybe Maryna
Drzyzga is moderately popular surname and according to mapa/kompletny/drzyzga there 1520 people with this surname in Poland today
Hello, In Ellis Island database there is Piotr Drzyzga and Maryanna (Marianna, a form of Maria) comming in 1913. They are from Jaskowice, Galicia. There are 5 places in Poland called Jas~kowice (s with a special diacritical mark) but I think that it is one close to Krakow: gmina (community) Skawina, powiat (county) Krakow as all other Jaśkowice are in Silesia and they were not located in Galicia. To obtain metrical documents you should contact a parish office in Jaskowice or a church archive in Krakow. I suggest to write them in polish.
thank you all for the information. yes after relooking at the orginal record it looks as if it jaskowice. grandmothers name lloks different in hand written info than what is typed on record, maybe thats why i couldnt find her nationalization papers. her name is maryanna drzyzga, says her
did anyone find anywhere information on my fathers dad? Jan Drzyzga, father is from "fambrzyce, or "im sure of the letters capitalized ,question others." F.A.(w,m,u) B.R. (z,g,y) Y (c,e) (c,e).
thank you for the information you gave. i will try to find someone who can conyact them in polish, for i only understand english. i looke again it could be Zembrzyce, looks correcyly. is that a village or county?
Zembrzyce is a village in the very southern part of Poland. I just did a google search of fambrzyce, then tried substituting the F with an S, since those two can be confused with handwriting sometimes, and google came up with Zembrzyce.
Father Jan Drzyzga is from Jaskowice as well, it is below his name. Zembrzyce is for the record no 17. I can translate a short letter to polish, so email me if you need.
i could make out the letters clearly on some and not on others, i was putting the letters it could be.
everyones been so helpful. thank you . if you can please write letter in polish requesting information that would be wonderful. heres the infomation i have.

where can i find birth and marriage, death records for jaskowice, before 1913?
Hi, In what document have you found Zembrzyce as Piotr Drzyzga's birth place? In Ellis Island database there is only Jaśkowice mentioned a few times and no Zembrzyce so I do not know what document you are reffering to. Piotr Drzyzga is in line number 18 in ship manifest (Marianna is in line 19) and there is a man (Leopold Zwirowski) in line number 17 and he is from Zembrzyce (or Zambrzyce) but Piotr Drzyzga and his father Jan are both from Jaśkowice.
Anyway, there is a parish in Jaśkowice but it is quite new so it is possible that metrical books are stored in an old parish Jaśkowice used to belong to, that is Paszkówka. So I think we can write to Paszkówka parish first. It is quite possible that I will be in church archive in Krakow tomorrow so I can check if they have any records from this parish although I will not be able to check the records as I have to finish some work there. Then, they close the archive and open it on January 10-th so, if they have anything I would be able to check the books in the second week of January. Anyway, I'll let you know tomorrow if they have anything. We can write a parish in the meantime but I do not think it would be faster because of Christmas, etc.
There is one more thing. Their marriage certificate, if it is less then 100 years old (so if they married in years 1910-1913), can also be found in civil registry office in Skawina. But I can not ask them for this document as according to polish law only close family can ask for transcripts of records (no copies). So you would have to write them and ask for a full transcript ("odpis zupełny") proving direct relationship (in some cases they do not require documents). They will charge you 33 zlotys (~11$). Anyway, I'll post here a sample letter you could send them and their address. And they may not be willing to search for the document if you do not know at least a year, but why not try.
i did read the wrong line on the immigration record. as for the marriafe date, on 1930 michigan censes report has him as born in 1884, and her in 1890. also piotr being 25 when he married her and mary being 18. so that would mean they were married in 1908 or 1909. im willing to try anything, i have my birthcert on my computer, my father theodore listeded on 1930 censes, with his parents, and their immigration record, so i can email them to someone if they can help me. thanks so much for the time and effort you have spent. i thank people alot when they help me i think people forget such a simple kindness and letting someone know that you do understand it is taking time away from that person to do something nice for you.
is there another place to check for information of piotr father, jan drzyzga ? or current desendants?
Hello, I called civil registry office in Skawina and was informed that they have documents for Jaśkowice from 1950 and earlier are in Brzeznica community office so I called them and a woman confirmed they should have marriage certificates for 1908-1909 for Jaskowice. She said to write her with a formal letter asking for a transcript so here is the letter in polish:

Szanowna Pani, Uprzejmie proszę o wydanie odpisu zupełnego aktu ślubu moich dziadków Piotra Drzyzgi urodzonego 29 września 1884, syna Jana z Marianną (nie znam nazwiska panieńskiego) urodzonej ok 1890. Dokumenty te są mi potrzebne w celach genealogicznych. Według posiadanych przeze mnie informacji małżeństwo powinno mieć miejsce w roku 1908 lub 1909 w Jaśkowicach. Piotr i Marianna Drzyzga wyemigrowali do Stanów Zjednoczonych w 1913 roku. Ich synem był Theodore Drzyzga, mój ojciec. Załączam dokumenty potwierdzające moje bezpośrednie pokrewieństwo z Piotrem Drzyzgą, tzn. kopię mojego aktu urodzenia, kopie dokumentu spisowego Teodora Drzyzgi z 1930 i dokumenty imigracyjne Piotra Drzyzgi. Uprzejmie proszę również informację o sposobie zapłaty opłaty skarbowej.
Z poważaniem, Marylin Carol Drzyzga
It asks for a transcript, gives details of Piotr Drzyzga and Marianna, and lists attachments and then asks for a way of paying office fee. The problem is the woman was not very willing to correspond with foreigners so we can do two things. You can send me this letter signed and I'll send it from Poland (together with translated attachments). The other possibility is you sign a kind of a letter allowing me to represent you in this case. Let me know which you prefer. Anyway, it is not going to be fast.
I also visited a church archive in Krakow and they have some metrical books for Paszkowka, from 19-th century. For the second half of the century they have 1847-1880 and 1883-1889 (births, marriages, deaths) so there may be Piotr's birth certificate there. I'll be able to check it after January 10.
jhzs thanks for your doing this for me. i will print out your letter and sign it, then rescan to send it to you, also i can write a letter giving you permission to handle this for me. question: what do you mean by "Paszkowka" how do i pay the fee, how much? how would i get it to you? what is the exchange rate polish money vs, usa dollar? boy im full of questions. do you have a direct email I can send the records to ?

Due to my age and my living in united states i am unable to come and request the records I seek for myself .I am requesting that you grant the following person to act on my behalf in requiring the transcriptions Im requesting. I thank you for your time and assistance in helping me in my quest in finding my ancestry information.
Hello, Here is my email: jhzs@gazeta.pl Write me and I'll send you my snail mail address. I think it would best if you print, sign and send me a letter to civil registry office and polish translation of the permission you wrote together with scans of documents.
Paszkówka is a former parish Jaśkowice used to belong to. Jaśkowice is a new parish so older metrical books may be either in Jaśkowice (if they were able to separate records for different villages, and it is possible for most of the cases of parishes in Galicia) or still in Paszkówka. And in church archive in Krakow the records are under Paszkowka. I live in Krakow so the easiest is to access records in a church archive. If we do not find anything there we can turn to parishes, but I prefer the archive as nuns working there are professional and willing to help (which is not the case for some priests I've met so far). In the same time we can write to civil registry office to look for a marriage record. Writing them does not cost anything. If they find the record (actually they may not even want to search if you do not give them exact dates but they sometimes do) they will charge you. The cost of full transcript is 33 zlotys, it is about 11$. I think that bank transfer is the best way but you do not have to pay them anything until they say they found it and are willing to give you the transcript. Feel free to ask any question you have, I'm glad I can help. If you think a anybody may benefit from the question and answer ask it here, if they are more specific use my email.
i am still searching information on my fathers family. the drzyzgas, i did however find the maiden birth name of my grandma her name before marriage was Lesniak., can anyone help me search infomation , she married a drzyzga. also i watched shindlers list, and was surprised to hear the name drzyzga as one of the woman that he saved, i wonder if theres a way to get copy of the real list of people he saved and if she was a relative.
