I'm from Australia and am trying to find information about my grandfather, Marian Domagala, as well as find possible relatives who may still be in Poland. Marian was born in Zawiercie, Poland, 26th September 1924 to parents, Franciszek and Antonina (nee Korpusiak) Domagala. I have had a search of the Registry Office of Zawiercie done with no record of Marian's birth found. Is it possible that his birth certificate/record is kept elsewhere (i.e. a Catholic Church)?
I know nothing of his life before the war and not a whole lot thereafter. What I can tell you is that when Poland was occupied by Germany during World War 2, Marian was one of the many displaced and forced to work. From 1940 to 1945 he was a factory worker in Bad Wiesser, then until 1946 he was a driver based in Wildflecken. After that he was part of a Polish Guard Company in Kassel (1947 to 1948). For part of 1948 and 1949 he was a driver at Griesheim and Hersfeld.
In 1945 he married Anna Konieczna and in 1946 they had their first child (my father), Wladyslaw (born in a displacement camp in Aschaffenburg). They had their second child, Zygmunt, in 1948 (born in a camp in Fulda).
When the war ended, Marian and his family decided to leave Europe. On 17th June 1949 they boarded the Nelly, for her maiden voyage. The Nelly set off from Naples and arrived in Victoria, Australia, on month later on 15th July 1949.
I've tried most search sites like ancestry.com and have run out of leads and places to search. Being unable to speak Polish has limited my search, but I do have a contact in Poland who I can pass information onto. I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction. Any information/help given will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jane
