Interesting topic, as i'm not a big fan of looking at blokes closely i can't really comment on them, however women, i think that they are a little below the average height. I don't see many tall Polish women at all. In fact so much so i can't remember the last polish girl i met over 5,5.
I was just curiose, not only becuase of my polish decent, but also in trying to figure out how a persons diet influencese height. To my conclusion is that the northern countries that eat more meat and fat have a greater heigth then does of the southern european countries whose diets have greater amounts of carbohydrates.
I am 168 cm and I consider myself average in Poland. Most of my girlfriends are 170 - 178 cm tall. As for guys, that depends. Some of them are a little above 170 cm, but some are really tall (up to 196 cm tall - not that many, though).
25% over 170 cm,1% over 180 cm.These are the statistics in my opinion.(from personal observation and estimation). For Belarus it is 15% over 170 cm and for Ukraine 20% over 170 cm.For Russia 15% over 170 cm.Polish girls are definetely taller than russian girls but shorter than czech and slovak girls and in the same height with german girls.
I am sure about czech, slovak, ukrainian, belarus and russian girls because I have counted them. For polish girls I rely more on observation and deductive thinking by other close nationalities measurements.
Really the anthropometric characteristics of girls in Lvov are almost similar to girls in Krakow.(slightly different to girls in Poznan though).
Twenty-year-olds are definitely taller than the same age group twenty years ago.
Yes,because the latter were impoverished during the '80's when they grew in puberty.Contrary to that today's Czechs have the same height as their ancestors which means they were not impoverished during the '80s.
It is surprising that Eastern German height has fallen in recent years which means that the living standards in Eastern Germany have fallen in relation to communist times!(although the western Germans were always taller than the Eastern Germans, the difference has now increased).
Omg. average is for woman about 163 cm tall. But they r taller and shorter. Most of my friends are about 153-160. But i can see girls about 170 cm tall (max) ! Polish arent tall. IMAO i can say, tahat we' r pretty short. And foreigner call us "short-arsess" how nice. ;/
Hmm, and what about man. Avearge height is 173-175. And when i am walking in the street, i can see almost smaller man. 168cm.
But how i said. We, Polish, are taller and shorter, but average is not high. And only 17-20% of girls are taller than 157cm. Truth.
I'm 190cm and I've got to say that I've not seen many Poles who are my height or above. In fact, from what I've seen, the Poles aren't an especially tall people, as far as northern Europeans go.
Just an observation. No malice. Anyway, lack of height is rarely a bar to anything in life...apart from the really good roller-coaster rides. Oh, yes.
the Poles aren't an especially tall people, as far as northern Europeans go.
The Danish,Norwegians,English are shorter than the Poles. And the Irish,French are obviously a lot shorter. But in no case would you start a thread about the height of these nations.
There are no recent measurements. My guess for the younger generation is 167 cm for women and 181-182 cm for men.
Not especially scientific.

In my opinion the best way to estimate heights are the personals where all heights are mentioned.
Not especially scientific. All you've managed to prove is that there are more taller Poles seeking love via personal ads than shorter Poles. Perhaps this is because they can't easily find lovers tall enough. All of this indicates that the Poles are not very tall, as a people.
You have no idea about statistics. What you measure and observe usually coincides with the actual picture and the numbers are as presented. However of course there are no data for heights in eastern Europe due to fear for the results(eg hit on myth of western-aryan superiority, demographic decline of heights after communism due to malnutrition etc, demographic factors which nobody wants to show off).
I don't agree with some of you who say that Polish aren't a 'tall nation'. I think they're above (world) average, i'm quite sure of it. Now, as everywhere else on the earth, there are smaller and taller persons, women and men, but on the whole, girls aren't that small (quite tall compared to some French girls), and men are in general taller than the French. That's what i noticed in the places i've been ;)
i was in poland this summer and they are definetly not short.but they are also definetly shorter than czech ( i was surprised how tall they usually are in general!!!) and northern germans ( also generally very tall but i think czech are taller!!))
polish girls i would say are generaly around 165-170 cm an guys i would say 175-182, but there is some very tall people also, but they are definetly not majority!!
counties with tallest people i have been to i would say are danemark, netherlands and czech republik!!danes are so tall!!!!i'm 168 cm and i felt most time like a midget in comparaison to danish girls!!!:(((
Young polish stand at 177,5cm. Higher than russians, slightly higher than belorussians, the same as ukrainians. The same as Britons and french and northern italians and greeks. They are shorter than slovaks and slightly sorter than hungarians.
