I am trying to locate friends from 1973-74 that worked for Polish Ocean Lines on the ship named the Sienkiewicz. I am terminally ill and would like to find them as I have such good memories of them all. They used to come to the Houston, Texas area. I have searched off and on for many years. I would especially like to find Michniewicz Zymont or Zygmount
who they called Tata. If anyone has any suggestions on where to start please let me know.
Tata means dad so they must have been related or were poking fun at each other. I hope you'll find your friends.
Don't know what kind of illness you have and don't know whether you're religious or not, what brings you hope and what brings you joy. I will keep you in my thoughts and my prayers to give you strength and hope. Please check your PM - private message.
Hi, If he was a polish sailor His name was Zygmunt. As you mentioned, he was sailing on 'Sienkiewicz' ship click pol.com.pl/?sub=3&sub2=s&statek=467 so probably you should write to the Polish Oceanic Lines at pol@pol.com.pl
Yes, they called him Tata as they looked at him as a father figure. I emailed P.O.L. and they said it had been too long and had no records of where he went after he left that job. He was the only one I had a last name for and you are correct that he spelled it Zygmunt as I found the paper he wrote it on after all these years. I have a few old photos is all and would love to find him and the others.
I am doing a bit better and have had 2 surgeries since my post and one more this month. I so want to find them. Thank you for the responses and bless you.
There is no certainity in this, as the name Zygmunt Michniewicz is not very rare, so more than one man in Poland can have it. I found these obituaries for this name, resident of Warsaw and/or £ódź:
Maybe it'll be useful... Do you know if he worked as a ship inspector etc.?
In Poland there is a popular social network named nasza-klasa. It's something like facebook but also popular among elders (not only youth). I did not find anyone registered with name Zygmunt Michniewicz. Michniewicz is popular surname so if you don't know place where he used to live in Poland it would be hard to find any relatives.
But I found this: nk.pl/profile/5669292
It's a profile called Michniewicz family and every stranger who carry proud surname of Michniewicz can add himself to this community. If I were you I would try to post some announcement about looking for that person or write to owner of that profile with request of sending such announcement to each user etc. Or maybe start a chain message with request of sending it to anybody who can know such person...

Hey that was lovely to find these for the person seeking her memories from many years ago. It is nice to see that humanity is still out there.
So no response is better? I think a response, truthful preferably, is better than nothing. I did a search for him/her and what could be find from it was obituary. Should I just leave it then? When I get more information (if he was a shiop inspector) I will search deeper too. If I was looking for someone I'd like to know. Where's my lack of humanity here?
I am sorry, but I found nothing more than above from Polish Ocean Lines about Zygmunt Michniewicz. It took some time, but I was hoping my acquaintance who worked there when it still existed could know more. Anyway he didn't get any leads on Z. Michniewicz...
