I'm brand new to this forum. I would appreciate it if somebody could point me in some directions to find out more on my friend's family name, Krzycki. I want him to learn more about his family so he can get in touch with his roots.
I'm not of Polish descent but I'm proud of my heiratage and want him to be as well.
first of all, without proper knowledge I cant help you.
when did your family immigrate?
if it was early on, I can direct you to the ellis island site. they have up to 1924. if it was late I can look into my ancestry and see if there is anyone by that name and the location Which I need that too, what state :)
as for records. I will try to find a link to the town name, unless it was later on. genealogy is hard, you have to have little more then just the name because the name could be spread around the world :)
so info I need is.
location of where they grew up (make sure they always stayed there too :)
Time frame of immigration. I will check some stuff out and see if I can lead you in right direction :)
some times local librarys have genealogy like Obits and old news articles. thats another direction you can also try for now till I get a location of this family in the states. :)

Just finding out where other Krzycki's live in Poland or other parts of Europe would be great. Plus any famous (or infamous :( ) figures in his family line would be interesting as well.

Excellent! I'll see if my friend can trace his roots back to Detroit. Would be interesting if he can link up to the Leo Krzycki bloodline. I'll be back with some more info about his family here in the near future.
Franz, Julie, Gislaf and Costantia Krzycki came to the US as afamily in 1872. This seems to be the group that came to Nebraska later on. Ask your friend if this could be the link.
Try the name Krysick. I think Krzycki or Krzysik is the name on my grandfather's grave. (Peter-died in 1952.) But my father and other grandfather's last name was Americanized to Krysick when he came from Poland. Check these out and I think you'll find what you are looking for.

It is also the name of a village in Galicia, Poland ( at one time Preussia, Germany, Austrian, pick your time and there was a different ruling power!). It is a polish and russian name. Every Krzycki or Krzycka has a common source which is an Western part of Poland, near Germany. Find on the map Krzycki Rów (I think it can be translated on Krzycki's Ditch or something like that).

There are 270 people named Krzycki in Poland. BTW you can tell your friend that Polish surnames ending in -ski and -cki have a noble ring to them and are the equiavelent of German names starting with von and French ones with de. In an English context, assuming your friend's Christian name is Thomas, Tomasz Krzycki would be roughly translatable as Thomas of Ryeshire.

My maternal grandfather,Anton Krzycki, was born in Columbus,Nebraska in 1885. My understanding is that he was one of approxamately 16 children. As might be expected, grandpa was born into a large farm family. He also had a younger brother named Phillip.
Phillip farmed the family homestead until he died. Unfortunately,I do not know the name of the great grandparents. But,I too would love to know more about this family, it's antecedents, etc.

His grandparents were Edward Stanley Krzycki and Victoria (Zulkoski) Krzycki. His GGparents were Frank & Agnes (Szymowicz ??) Krzycki.
They lived in Elba, Nebraska and descendents moved to Farwell, St Paul & eventually Omaha.

Since Edward Stanley Krzycki was born in 1898, I'm not sure if he is first generation or 2nd generation. Anybody have any idea how I can find out if his ancestors were in the U.S. or were in Poland? And how do I find out who they are.
Unfortunately all the elders in my husband's family have passed away.

Ah, I may be a little late on this one... ok, a lot late. But for those of you using google - here's a bit of history on the Krzycki family in Columbus.
There's still a lot of Krzycki's in Columbus and several of us that moved to Omaha (mostly decendents of Anton Krzycki).
From what I have found - John Krzycki was born in Uscie, Poland in 1847. Married Barbara Borowiak who was born in 1851 in Posen, Poland. Immigrated to US in 1871 - ended up in Nebraska that year. Had several children including my grandfather Anton. Anton died when I was a kid... about 40 years ago.

This is the first time i am on here, but i am the Great Granddaughter of Leo Krzycki. He was actually born in Milwaukee, WI in 1881. I don't know a whole lot of the Krzycki back ground. My Dad and his siblings also dont know much about the Krzycki's in Poland. I am trying to gather any kind of info i can. My Grandfather has passed on, so i can't get any info from him.
I knew the Leo Krzycki that was a union organizer. He was a brilliant man. A Socialist. I did not believe in his politics but i truly respected the man. He has a grandson also named Leo living in the Milwaukee area.
My grandfather was Michael Krzycki. He came from Galicia in 1909. He settled in the UP in Raber, MI. He was born 9/29/1889. How can I trace is family in Poland?
