Coats of arms of Polish cities

It came to my mind while reading the legend of Warsaw mermaid to my children during evening reading session.

Krakow`s:

Warsaw`s:

Warsaw`s is exciting while Krakow`s is conservative.

They both well represent both cities` atmosphere.

I love the Gdansk coats of arms.... my hometown btw. I think it was king Kaz. Jag. way back when who adorned it with a crown!!!

In Poznań there is the term "zielone śledzie" (green herrings). Originally in vinegar sauce, nowadays anything you want: salsa, tomato, etc. Basically: first fried, then marinated.

Yes, they were thinking hard how to represent the motto "nie kijem go, to pałką"; meaning - "inaczej, w inny sposób, ale z tym samym skutkiem". In English: If not (hit him) with a stick, then with a bludgeon"; or "in other way, but with the same effect".

So, they they came up with the key and with the sword, and hence with saints Peter and Paul.

Acording to the legend for a long time there was only half of the eagle in the coat but then our ruler went to Opava.When he was coming home his carriage's wheel broke and one servant put half of the wheel beside the coat.Mieszko PlÄ…tonogi decided that it was very good combination and that's how it was created.

It represents a saline graduation tower. .Ciechochinek is unique in the world min this matter.

This is the biggest one in Poland, made of three walls of the total length of 1741 m and the height of 15m. Built in 19th c.

There is also a much smaller one in Inowrocław: 300m x 9m. Built in 2001
And finally there is a tiny one in GrudziÄ…dz: in a form of a sigle 9 m pillar under a glass pyramidal roof.

In KonstÄ…ncin there is also one. But I still do not understand how it works.

Ciechocinek is known for its unique[clarification needed] 'saline graduation towers'.[1] Experts have considered the local saline springs to be of extreme value and named the thermal spring no. 14 "a wonder of nature". The therapeutic qualities of these springs are directed toward curing cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, traumatic, rheumatic, nervous system and women's diseases.

A brine is pumped from the underground source up to the top of the tower (actually more like a Great Chinese Wall) to special throughs. Next it is filtered along the walls constructed with big poles of oak, spruce and pine, and filled with blackthorn branches. Due to the wind and the sun action, the water evaporates on the blackthorn - creating a microclimate rich in iodine, sodium, chlorine, bromine for people to enjoy therapeutic inhalation there.

But it is also used during the multi-stage process of brine concentration from where it is pumped to the salt plant, where salt, mud and medicinal lye are produced.
