Aleksiewicz Surname - Looking for my ancestors

I am looking for the relatives of Francis K (Francek, Franciszek) Aleksiewicz (Alexsiewicz) born 1883 in Poland. He married Regina Dombek (Dembek, Dambek) who was born 1893 in Poland. I do not know if they married in Poland or in the US. At some point they arrived in US perhaps via Canada settling in the New England States (New Hampshire, MA, VT). If I could find their birth certificates I could find their parents names. My father, Henry Aleksiewicz, has passed as has his siblings. I have no one to ask any questions.

Can you help?

Any thoughts yet?

there is no national database of birth certificates before the second world war (I doubt there is one for the most time after the II WW either) - so you need to know the places were your ancestors were born and then there is a chance you can find their birth certificates or similar data in the parishes of their births - the church seems to keep it's archives (some such parochial books may however have since been destroyed during the first and the second WW) - still you're gonna need some help here in Poland to reach this archives - I'm pretty sure you can find such (professional or semi-professional) help through this forum

Thanks. I just have no idea where they came from. It's frustrating. I may have to rely on intuition and just start looking in the highest population of Aleksiewicz in certain areas. Thanks.

Here is a map that shows where people with a certain last name are concentrated in modern Poland. I searched for Aleksiewicz, you could also put in the variant name of Alexsiewicz in the search field to get an idea where to look in Poland.

moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/aleksiewicz.html

That is what I did with my surname of Bubacz. This can be helpful if the surname is relatively rare. Since the name Bubacz was most highly concentrated in the Poznan area, I went to the Poznan Marriage Project to search for a marriage record. I knew the names and date of birth of the bride and groom as well as the names of their parents, so if they were from the Poznan area, it would be easy to find the right record. I lucked out after searching for years in the USA to find some record to get me across the ocean to Poland. None of the ship's records, or naturalization records told what area they were from other than Prussian Poland.

In your case, your bride and groom were born after the time period covered by the Poznan Marriage Project, but I searched for the name Aleksiewicz/Alexsiewicz to see what parishes in Poznan had people with this last name.

I found Regina Dąmbek by her married name of Regina Aleksiewicz in the Social Security Death index. The index is free. For a fee, you may apply for a copy of her original application filled out in her own handwriting. The application usually lists the names of her parents. Once you know her parent's names, you may find the above information on the Poznan Marriage Project of more value to you. :-)

Hi Patricia. Yes those are my parents! Henry and Joanne.

ahhhhh I am glad.. i sent my email , so soon as you reply back I will send you the
record :)))

I will keep looking.. if you have any thoughts on how the name might be mis spelled
I will give emm a try.. thats usually the problem with finding records on ancestry or ellis
cause the people are reading very smeared writing.. its hard to get accurate name spelling.

and also those taking the names ( during that time) also mispelled them.

:)

Hey, not sure if these are relatives, but I have a relative Antoni Aleksiewicz, who was married to Francziska, born Hunter. They would have been born I guess mid-1800s.

my grandfather is Edward Aleksiewicz, was married to June, and he was from Poland.. I don't know much but would love to learn about my family and culture. I plan to visit Poland one day soon! I grew up in Connecticut (where my grandfather resided). How do you find relatives that far back? I know my dad was born in the 1950's, so my grandfather had to be somewhere in 1920's.. my email is jnicole0103@gmail if still interested!!
