Hi,

I'm new to this forum and wondering if anyone can help me regarding my polish grandfather, Adam Gegotek. He was with the British Army I understand and died here in the UK in 1963. I have managed to obtain his death certificate but I was hoping to have his birth certificate, which I understand will be a bit more trickier as he was born in Krakow. Does anyone know which part of Poland the surname Gegotek comes from? Also, how do I go about obtaining his birth certificate? I really would like to have more information about this side of my family. My grandfather and grandma never married and their relationship although they produced my father was somewhat limited therefore I have little information. I would love to find out more not just for me but for my father and my newborn son when he gets older. Thanks in advance guys x

GĘGOTEK: from the verb gęgać (gaggle - the sound made by geese), so Gęgotek would be the Gaggler. Pronunciaton (roughly): gain-GAW-tek.

Merged thread:
Looking for my step aunt who was born in Suloszowa

My step auntie who was born in Suloszowa who apparently now lives in Krakow and is now 75 years old. The civil register office in Suloszowa have recommended that I contact the Civil Register Office in Suloszowa to obtain her address - is this really possible? Can anyone help me draft such a simple letter to get this information - my dad would love to hear from her, thanks xx

Hi!

Did you find anything?

My original name was Adam Gegotek, the son of Jerzy Gegotek and Grandson of Pawel Gegotek and Janina Gegotek
My father changed our surname from Gegotek in 1958 or thereabouts. All the familly were soldiers. My father, Jerzy was an army officer when WW2 broke out, My Grandfather was a Border guard on the Eastern Border of Poland when the war broke out. (I am definitely not army minded). However, my father died in the year 2002 and my grandfather died in July 1944 in Italy, around 4 ywears before I was born.

Would be good to hear if we are related or have common family.

My email address is adam.j.gordon19@gmail. I am based in UK.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi lou3939,

Adam Gęgotek which you mentioned was my grandparent, Anna Gęgotek is my aunt. I know that my grandparent after war settled in Leicester. Please contact me if you would like to know more details. I work in Rugby, UK, and I would like to see his tomb in Leicester, but I'm not sure where it is exactly.

Many thanks,
Sebastian Greczkowski

Hi Sebastian

I am sending huge apologies as some years have passed and I came across this post. I did not receive a notification to inform me that I had received replies. I would love to hear from you if you are still on this forum?
