Turkey kiełbasa?

I understand many meat producers are using turkey meat in Poland to maek kiełbasa, frankfurters, kabanosy, even polędwica (smoked pork loin). Has anyone tried them? Are they good? Are they cheaper than the traditional pork-based type?

it's true that turkey is used in many products. i guess because it's cheap to produce.

i don't eat much meat and i certainly don't eat kiełbasa so can't tell you how good it is.

They're cheaper, obviously jacked up on water and salt (they can't be dried out like a regular cabanos) and taste VERY disappointing.

On this issue I do agree with your underlying premise that the country's going to the dogs, old chap. O tempora! O mores!

They serve a useful function - to provide cheap food to people who can't afford much.

Personally, I think it's insulting to look down at people eating such things. If they do, it's their choice - who am I to judge?

Turkey-based products should be healthier than pork in terms of cholesterol.

Hmmm, if only that were the whole story. I have the odd laugh at P3's expense wrt his occasional post-Orwellian turns of phrase, but have to take a leaf out of his book here - the ahem, tescofication of the market place has destroyed smaller, traditional zakłady mięśne all over the country. In the name of consumer choice? Hardly. This is just a de facto monopoly using its purchasing power to take a ligature to the market and cauterise the competition's access to the markets.

People the world over choose to buy crap on a daily basis because it's .10 cheaper. Poland is no exception.
