Traditional Polish meal for my Polish boyfriend in the US?

I was curious if anyone had any ideas for a great traditional Polish meal to make for my pseudo Polish boyfriend? He's been in the US for 6 years now, but I sometimes like to make little attempts to let him now I'm interested in his culture. I think we have the drink part taken care of (vodka, of course!) but I just wanted some ideas for some dishes that would pair well together to make a great meal. Thanks for any/all suggestions!

Kotlet schabowe i ziemniaki. (Pounded pork chops, breaded and fried, side dish of smashed potato)

Rzeberka (spelling?) baked in kapusta - is one of my favourites...

Zupa Grzybow

1 lb wild mushrooms (chop)
1/2 lemon
2 tbs butter
6 cups beef stock
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup water
3.5 tbs flour
1 lg onion (chop)

salt & pepper for taste

Saute shrooms with water onion and juice from 1/2 lemon (15-20 min)
Place in lg pot with 5 cups of stock. Bring to simmer. Mic sour cream and flour then add remaining cup of stock. Mix in to soup stirring and bring to a boil. Add additional seasonoing if necessary.

There are other variations, but this one turns out well. Smacznego :)

It's a bit of a cheat, but you could do what I did for my Polish gf: Pop along to the Polish section in the local Tesco and get some ready made pierogi, etc- then tell them you spent all day in the kitchen preparing it ;)

Make him Gołąbki everyone loves them, beef and rice wrapped in cabbage and spicy tomato sauce . They're Ukrainians in the video, but the Gołąbki are the same.

My Nana used to make latkes also known as placki ziemniaczane (potato pancakes). Easy peasy with shredded potatoes and onions. You just cannot go wrong with it, and it's a childhood treat for many Poles as far as I'm aware. Nana used to serve it two ways depending on if it was a proper dinner or just a snack, with sugar and sour cream or alongside beef gulash (a stew)

My Nana used to make latkes

Eventhough I am English my Grandma and her side of the family were Polish, however she died early, but I remember this! We used to have this with her, with suger my mum says, I did not realise it was Polish, brings back memories.

thankyou, I want to try this!

Yes, it is very Polish and very Jewish as well so brings two cultures and nations together well, now even three. Enjoy! Ohhh I have such a massive urge to have a bite on now!

You do not serve potato pancakes without a reason and history behind it. I'm going to give you a tip: add a tbs of a potato flour, it will keep it together nicely while turning on a pan

.
