Where can I get the spreader/rake for making crepes & pancakes in Poland?

This is what I mean

pancake rake

Been to loads of supermarkets and shops in Wrocław - no joy.

If it's only available by mail order (as it is in the UK), a link would be great. Thank you.

edit
This but at a good (lower) price with no postage to pay which makes it expensive?

couple of bits of wood and some glue (maybe a screw), job done.

I commend you on posting the most interesting topic. None other can compare! I did Google crepe spreader and found a ton of them for sale. Are you sure you cannot find one online and have it shipped. One was only $3.95. Of course, there's shipping involved. Are you looking for one to be shipped from a Polish company in Poland? I can see why. Less shipping costs that way. None of the ones I saw when I Googled are in Poland, though.

Good luck with your procurement!

Makes it a bit easier to spread the batter thinly, not essential to have but the professionals use them for a reason!

Well, I could do that, Leroy Merlin probably has some cheap wood. But was hoping to find one assembled and cheap, Even 10zl, although a lot compared to most wooden kitchen utensil products here would be acceptable just about. You can buy a spatuala and lots of wooden things in the shops for 2zl or 4zl, but none of them so far have this item at all. Only supplier so far is via Allegro.

Don't worry, Gazeta Polska, Radio Marya and PiS will get mentioned somewhere in this thread, won't be dull here for long!

I read a review for one crepe spreader. Someone wrote the spreader is too wide for their skillet so if you are making the crepes in a skillet, might want to be aware of that. You might need a griddle or a crepe pan to use a spreader.

Hmm. well that's a pitfall I shall now bear in mind, you could have averted disaster for me with that tip, thank you!

I also want to thank you! I never knew these things existed before but they make sense if you want the batter to be flawlessly even in the pan. Might want to get a pan and a spreader myself and try to make crepes with it. I bet they turn out better with the spreader than without.

:o)

In case you want to make them thin: batter should be quite watery, almost like water. You can pour the batter into the pan or use a soup spoon ("ladle"). To get the batter to reach the pan's sides/edges - move the pan around while keeping a firm grip on the handle, you can also gently shake or vibrate the pan to get the batter to go to the edges of the frying pan. A proper pancake pan is better than a multi-purpose frying pan. When frying, take care not to let a non-stick pan get too hot before you put the batter in as this can be toxic (fumes etc, see link below). Keep pancakes warm by putting them in an oven at 100C after frying. Not too much oil - just brush the pan with oil, no more than that is needed for each pancake.

I found this interesting contraption. It's a crepe maker, does all the cooking and everything.

When you consider the cost of crepe pans, that looks like a good way to go. No chance of burning the crepes.

It's 80zl in Tesco Bielany Wroclaw, 2 left (yesterday) if you want one. Slightly more upmarket one with a lid, about double that in Jula.

I'm with you on this one

A thick batter gives a bad pancake, the batter should move around the pan by its self.

PS the only time I've seen one being used (well it was an icing knife...the flexible ones) was when the hotplate was too hot (used for other things) and the batter "set" quickly plus you can't tilt a hotplate.

I don't think you need one at home.

If you have a spare $1000 dollars laying around, spend it on this crepe maker: amazon.com/Krampouz-CEBIF4-Commercial-Electric-Machine/dp/B 004FNXW8A/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1339512714&sr=1-4

For that much the crepes better be out of this world.

This person makes it look very easy - it's not.

I have owned the exact same one, for some time and the pancake sets before you get a chance to spread it more thinly, result is a mess. In this video, the spreader (not the same as a proper rake) is not being used correctly anyway as anyone can see

Crepes (bliny) for Maslenica

What are your favorite Polish fillings for crepes (bliny?) Also, do you celebrate Maslenica in Poland?

Bliny and maślenica are eastern inventions... little is known of them in Poland.. the crepes that we make are called "naleszniki",a recepie from Poland that my parents always made.We fill them with whipped cream and all sorts of berries such as blueberries and raspberries.
