Singles (fake cheese) in Poland

One of the most atrocious concoctions of the American fake-food industry is something called Velveeta. It is an orange-coloured gummy substance which the US government has not allowed to be called cheese for many years. (They use the euphemism 'cheese food'.) Ihave also seen it in Poland, not called Velveeta, but the same kind of gunk pressed into plastic-wrapped single slices. Do Polish people actually eat that stuff? Is the word 'ser' allowed on the packaging?

In huge amounts. The topiony stuff is even worse.

I can tell you after living her for 9 years that Polish people are getting fat and fast. In north America it has been an ongoing thing- slowly but surely people are fat fat fat. Since Poland joined the EU and the borders have opened to all things manufactured- people are consuming it- they never had it before, the west had it, it must be good?

Poles only need to look at the obesity rates in the west to see what these fake foods are doing to people.

That's what you get for not buying Gouda or Edam. (Or Maaslander.)

Kraft's Cheez Whiz can't be all that healthier. I've seen people turn into fat slobs from it.

In Saudi, I tried some stuff from Kraft that's quite popular there. In a box. It reminded me of something you used to get in Britain in the early seventies called processed cheese. In Poland the cheese is mostly factory stuff and as bland as they can get it. Better to stick to the traditional ser bialy.

Poland has never been or never will be known as a decent cheese producing country, so this other stuff goes down quite well unfortunately:(

I disagree. I think Polish cheese and dairy products are quite good.

Velveeta is also used as fishing bait.

I don't know about particular brands, but the smoked cheese Rolada Ustrzycka is very good.

That and Oscypek can be good - but again most of the Rolada Ustrzycka sold is a processed factory version, far from the real thing.

Ever try ser tylżycki, a yellow hard cheese? For some reason it is hard to get in Poland nowadays but used to be quite common. And very nice!

There's plenty in the supermarkets but again it isn't real Tilsiter (which I agree is lovely). It's just factory stuff identical to other 'cheeses' with a near-random label stuck on the invariably plastic packet.

So is fake ham Spam lol. Cheez Whiz is crap but it does taste better than mozzarella cheese fries.

There you have it delph, Poland has the same crap on their store shelves that America does and the Polish eat it too.
Come to America and see the thousands of micro breweries that make just as good of beer as Europe does.
See the little Mom & Pop bakeries that make muffins that melt in your mouth.
Taste some of the best domestic wine in the world.
Try some nice sharp Wisconsin cheese like non other in the world.
America has it all, cheap imitations and the highest quality in the world.
So next time you want to compare the best cheese Europe has to offer please compare it to the best cheese America has to offer and not the cheap imitation ones.
