Correct Atch.........90% is PURE grain alcohol.
The strongest that you can make.
You have to distill it at least twice or more to make it that pure.
When you make it that strong it has to be cut almost in half before you can enjoy it.
You try to throw back a shot of 90% straight and IT WILL burn the lining out of your throat.
Take it from a Texas redneck that learned this first hand on a bet.
I couldn't talk for about a week.
That's why when these kids talking about "Drinking it" I have to laugh.
No, you sip it if you are doing it straight up and that is the 70% stuff.
Like I said before though, you don't get a bad hangover from it drinking it straight as it is so pure.

No way, from experience, the only way is to down a shot of it. Sipping it is a waste of time, you just end up tasting much more of it, and it's really not to be tasted.

Why would I drink such a thing when I can buy quality alcohol that's actually enjoyable to drink? If I want to destroy my insides, I can buy 96% alcohol in Poland from the supermarket.

You seem to forget that some people aren't drinking because they enjoy the flavour or the effect.

I agree to that but you can't buy MOONSHINE in the supermarket and that is what is being discussed here and what the thread is about.

Again delph, I highly doubt that you ever tried MOONSHINE since you claim to have done shots of it straight down.

All I know anyway is that Poitín in Ireland has always been taken to mean the stuff made in home distilleries and considered absolutely lethal. There are commercially produced versions now but everyone knows they're not 'the real thing'.


He may have scar tissue on his larynx. I once knew a doctor, an ear, nose and throat specialist and he told me that one of the main functions of the larynx is fixation of the chest for lifting heavy weights. The fact that we can produce sound with it is just an added bonus. He said that people who do a lot of heavy lifting often damage the larynx without knowing it and can have very raspy voices which are mistaken for what he called 'a typical beer voice'. Anyway if Delph has ever put in a few months of heavy lifting, that could be the reason for his raspiness!

Absolutely, Delph; they sell 96% stuff in Polish stores. First time I saw some was at a Carrefour Express in my street and I was really amazed as I was unaware it could even exist. Who drinks that? However, for me no difference, since without being a teatotaller, I only (occasionally) drink (mostly red) wine and hate stronger stuff.

People use it as a base for making their own home-made vodkas etc. We made a delicious raspberry vodka from it.

Most likely but when we see the % of Polish men completely destroyed by hard booze, we can wonder ;). It's very sad......
