Are you sure - appalling? I know in Ireland there are frequent 'monitored' trips (various sensors, cctv etc) for live exports in order to provide evidence of reasonable welfare.

lol, maybe the cost of slaughtering is cheaper in SA and offset the first class cost? I agree - the only reason i can think of is, it's considered virtuous to make the sacrifice by yourself than sub contracting it ( after the eid festival when sacrifices are traditionally made).

if you transport a live animal you have to ensure it does not die enroute
so the animal needs more space and needs to be watered and most likely fed along the way (although I would not feel like eating

but then again, I am not a sheep)

compare this to killing the animal in the UK, removing the offal and lights (that is organs and guts for everyone who has just finished lunch)

then freezing them and cramming as many as you can into a refridgerated container and shipping them

it is much more economical to ship them frozen

the reason is that the congregation (for want of a better word) want to see the spectacle associated with the sheep being offed in public

the slaughtering is not that inhumane. these muftis are handy with a blade. it is the live transport which I am against

I agree, it was tongue in cheek with the cost comment, it should definitely be cheaper to do so before shipping cattle. However as i said it is considered virtuous to make the sacrifice by the person offering the sacrifice - hence the transport of live animals. Also they are not slaughtered together, it's done one after the other with no visibility to the other animals. True about the blade, they are indeed handy with it.

I dont understand if you eat helal food whats diffrent if you dont eat whats is diffrent? I will never understand. important food must to be hygienic.

WTF? You are in POLAND , this is a European PORK nation. GET used to it. Drinking is a part of the culture "STO LAT". Get ready for it. When I am in IRAN I will eat your stinky GOAT dishes and rice. WHen you come to POLAND you better prepare yourself to eat PORK.

Funny, because my friend and I were discussing both "Kosher and Halal" food requirements recently. Sure the hebrews and saudi nomads lived in hot, deserts with no refrigeration. In that case maybe not eating Pork could be a "best practice". But the fear of Trichinosis in todays world is totally BOGUS. Only if the pig has the Trichinosis worm and ONLY if the pork is not fully cooked, might you even have a chance of getting Trichinosis. Modern pig raising and testing when butchered prevents any of that.

Furthermore, consider the millions of other "peoples" who lived in other areas of the world and even in HOT, dry, deserts who continued to eat pork during the Hebrew/Jew/Islamic early days and where are they now.... STILL ALIVE and doing fine!

Kosher and Halal - FAIL.

So, I must encourage you to OPEN your MIND and "when in Poland do as the Polish"... Pork is the other white meat, after all!

Why you cannot eat only vegetables instead of bother seeking for Halal food?
My practicing jewish friends when they don't find Kosher they just eat vegetables.

Can't you just go to regular butchershop and ask for anything without pork? As far as I remember you can find a large variety of beef and poultry, not only pork.

Yeah, religious dietary restrictions are 98% about creating and enforcing segregation (it's essentially impossible to justify them on purely moral or ethical grounds) so sad that so many take them seriously....

In the period and place those rules were formed they made a lot of sense and certainly contributed to the progress of humanity, but now we know more than we did then.

It's as much a tradition as good scientific reasoning, and one that's important to many while causing harm to none.
