also what about the supermarkets tampering?

Supermarket meat is injected with water to make it heavier. Support your local butcher!

Support your local butcher!

as long as he supports my wallet its a two way process ohh and stop giving me 240 gramms when i ask for 200. Its a downward spiral spiral back there, in a few years even the butchers will be selling crap.

Im really going to have issues when i leave Poland with regard to buying meat. Had Oxtail Stew yesterday a real winter warmer.

jonni--that's where you have a choice----go somewhere else to buy your meat. That's why democracy works. If you own a business ,you have to be better than the one next door or guess what.????the customer is going to bypass your place for the one next door.We are very selective where we shop here. It,s my money and will choose not to buy "crap"

Support your local butcher!

I do - its family run and I know the family and I know the farms where they get their lamb from and I know they get most of their beef from Scotland - he actually makes his own burgers, but Im still not interested.

He does lamb kofters (spelling) as well - but not eaten one of them either...Im sure I couldn't, even at the threat of an ass kicking...They all have fat in them, I'd grill it to a cinder! That would be a worse thought for you ;0) My friends little boy loves them (she's another who supports her local butcher) - in fact I think he'd turn his nose up at a pre-packed one :D

As I stated I have tried, a few years ago, but these days the thought of one makes me retch! I think the prog where this guy did "barely legal burgers" really compounded my thoughts on them...Google it..even the ones that say they are 99% beef are lying through their teeth!

well--the only way you will try is---- buy some pork and beef and grind the meat yourself.I have done this many times .

jesus christ, pork? that's wrong, pork belongs in a lot of things, but despite it's name, a hamburger should only be perverted with bacon.

This is what your burger should look like.

Good God!

Also, if you're afraid to eat burgers because you don't know what's in it, you must stay away from sausage as well.

I could never find good groud beef in Poland.

Ground pork, yes.

Ground beef and pork, yes.

None of the markets had it where I was.

Most of the natives thought beef was unsafe.

Why does anyone want to eat burgers of any sort?

the meat, the melted cheese, the egg, the bacon, the tomato, shredded lettuce eith ketcup in a slightly toasted roll are just too delicious to pass up.

The beautiful simplicity of a burger with swiss cheese and a slice of sweet onion on toasted rye is sublime. Mushroom and Swiss burger? Yes please!

I think many Europeans just dont have the sophisticated tastebuds required to process the amount of awesomeness that a good native burger-master is capable of producing. Same thing with BBQ ribs, prolly.

I second Hard Rock Cafe in Warsaw, it's the only place I have had a decent burger. Granted I don't order them a lot, but if you're going to get one, get it there.

I'd say most of burgers, same as kebabs and pizza are designed for a specific region and people, specific taste. So it will be hard to find the exactly same flavour that you like because there's a big probability that it only tastes like that in your country

I would agree with that completely. I find that "American" burgers have the meat ground too fine for my taste and so I prefer the ones I get the butcher shop in the UK where it is just normal minced meat.

Also to those denouncing the fat in a burger. The fat in meat gives it a lot of flavour. Compare a fillet and a sirloin, a fillet will be nice and tender but won't taste half as good as the sirloin.

I personally like making my own burgers as well though, not because of specific ingredients or being sure of the quality. More just because they are fun to make and it means you can season it to your taste from the start. I personally like to add some finely chopped onions, garlic, allspice and a decent bit of black pepper. I also normally add some "filler" of breadcrumbs with egg yolk because I feel it gives it a nice mouth-feel. Some star anise is always nice in there too.

I actually had a dream last night that I was arguing with a burger vendor because he said I wasn't allowed a bacon and cheese quarter pounder...don't know how that turned out though because I woke up.

Some nice American hot dogs in PL. That hot dog stand in Galeria Mokotow.

A world apart from the normal European ones.
