My grandmother used to make a hot dish that was my family's favorite. She recently passed away and no one knows what the dish was called or the recipe. All I know about the dish was that it had sauerkraut, noodles, salt, pepper, possibly sour cream and it was served warm. I've searched the internet and I can't find anything even close to a recipe like that. If anyone has any idea what I might be talking about, I would greatly appreciate any sort of recipe so I can surprise my family this Christmas! Thank You :)

Possibly "bigos" or Polish "hunter's stew"?? It contains meat, at least the type I've eaten prepared in authentic Polish restaurants in Greenpoint:-) Quite delicious, stick-to-your-ribs stuff, best enjoyed as either a main or even a side dish alongside boiled kiełbasa and washed down with a glass of Żywiec!

Wlodzimierz, you don't add noodles to bigos :) I say it is LAZANKI: polishmeals.com/2010/11/lazanki-pasta-dish/

Maybe a long lost relative of "laSAGna", only minus the tomatoes and parmesan?

It's called "haluszki z kapustą" in Polish, and "kapustové halušky" in Slovak. Extremely popular among Polish Americans. Tons of recipes on the internet. Some with fresh cabbage, others with sauerkraut. Some with homemade noodles or dumplings, others with store-bought noodles (often bow-ties). Some with meat, some without. Every family has their own recipe. Like I said, check out the internet for tons of recipes.

Type haluszki recipe into Google images and pick one that looks like what your grandmother made, and use that as a starting point.
