Why carp for Polish Christmas?

Of course they should. As George "W" Bush once famously remarked on this issue:
"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully"
Let's hope so. Although, I really don't like carp... I much prefer cod and chips. But, I am just an English peasant:D

I think fish have rights similar other animals. But it's nor respected, I like the "still alive carp" campaign.

Saw some live carp in a small tank of about 2 or 3 feet x 2 feet in a local greengrocer's (fruit and vegetable shop) today - I was appalled. A few feet away was a large knife. Am never shopping there again.

Good that you're all having a laugh, but, can anyone help me out here. There were once carp ponds all over England especially where there were rich people or monks. They have now virtually all disappeared under the turf, but nobody seem to know exactly how they were used. Each place usually had several. What went on in each one, did they get emptied every year, were the fish fed, how did they harvest the fish, what was the cycle of use. I'm hoping that somebody from central Europe might have some answers as carp growing probably continued more into modern times there, so things may have been written down and recorded. All the U.K. references tend to be archaeological facts and drawings but I want to know what actually happened. Did they use nets or wicker traps or just drain the water out to harvest the fish. Any helpful information would be most welcome.

InWroclaw....I also want more rights for carp. Just because they look different from mammalian humanoids it's really not fair they are seen as solely protein and essential oils.
