My wife and I are Poles living in Canada, having first lived in UK for 20 years. There is never a social occasion whithout my wife reminiscing about good ' ol british draught beer, and how no American or Canadian beer can ever come close. Much less fussy about my drink I often wonder if there are any other Polish expat connoisseurs of British pub beers in preference to your typical Polish lagers.
That's obviously up to our taste buds as individuals, but personally I would have to side with your wife. It's tough to match the taste of English ales/bitters, not to mention the great variety of local brews available at your average English pub (not the case in Poland/US).
There's a vast array of great Polish beers here. It seems there's every conceivable kind, along with some international brands in the supermarkets. As for preferring British beer, I think I'd be going a bit loopy if I missed UK beers. Few UK pubs had the real ales or decent beer likely to cause any sentimentality about that. Really, the only thing I like about pubs in England is JD Wetherspoon's cheap meals menu. Even cheap Polish beer is pretty darn good, as far as I'm concerned.
