I was wondering if PF allows look alike screen names or the management discriminates with them and kind of provide copyrights to the screen names that look alike like?

EG:DAISY or DAlSY(THE i IN THE SECOUND DAISY IS LOWER CASE L)

MOFO Mods....no answer? need help? email me!

A very strange question indeed. I wonder why anyone would feel the need to copy another members user name? A quick scan through current members user names showed members had either uppercase or lowercase, but not a combination of both (obviously the first letter can be capitalised) . My guess would be that when you register a new name for your account ,a filter or script will recognise that the name is already in use and you will be asked to pick an alternative one.

On the same topic, in the past we have had trolls copying other members user names by reversing one letter etc, but these "copycat" names were soon noticed and were quickly taken out of circulation, and of course, so were the trolls.

Do you perchance refer to the username I had when I'd been advised to not use my real name (i.e. PWEI) and the troll account PWEl (troll)? Would I be correct in assuming that the troll there also posted under a range of different names from that same IP address? And that they continue to do so?

That did spring to mind, but they are not posting from the same address anymore, that's for sure..

So meaning that look alike names are not permitted thus PF follows strict copyright like rules?or until the look alike screen name is offending anyone(or the administration of PF thinks it is)?If yes then as it looks like, what are the grounds to determine that>?I think its a pretty grey area where a judgement has to be very carefull..for eg: a look alike screen name claims to be gay:) and the mods delete and block the user ...dont one think its discrimination?as it has happened to WILDROWER in here:)Maybe the look alike name was gay and was banned from posting for cpl of months as far as I remember.

I don't think it has anything to do with copyright rules, it just doesn't make sense to have two or more members on any website using the same user names.

I'm afraid you have lost me there.

The best person to answer your original question would be admin, so check back here in a few days or so.

But you have already tried this a couple of weeks ago, and got yourself suspended and your new look alike name account did too. If this didn't answer your question, then I don't know what will?

I would imagine it would be confusing especially if the username was so close to the other. For instance MOoli or putting an i after an a and that was the only change in a long name. Can you see where that would cause confusion?I don't think it would be acceptable for someone to use a different username to basically play games or try to incite, but see what admin says on that.

Would an IP block answer it? I seem to remember the gentleman in question complaining here about how he had to get his lawyer involved when his IP was blocked.

If the gentleman creates a look alike username again, with the sole purpose of using it against the member with the original name, then the gentleman will find himself locked out from PF by whatever means. If the gentlemen had dynamite instead of brains, I don't think he would have enough to blow his hat off.

Nicely done Vincent: not a single mention of any username!

Agreed ;)

Yes.

I think its a pretty grey area where a judgement has to be very carefull..

A 'look-alike' name is not equal to 'the-same-name.' Mods have means to distinguish that quickly and 100% accurately. You may also hover on username and check the registration date.

So what and how will the "Look alike name" & "the same name" be distinguished as?Also there is a way for another user can sign on from the same IP?

Is it possible to change ones screen name to any other name after the account has been established? No.
