Access to Off-topic forum / random chat and posting therein

At the moment one can opt out of seeing discussions from the Off-Topic forum. I'd like to suggest that that is reversed so that people need to opt in in order to see those threads. What do other people think about that suggestion

I assume from the way that only registered users have posted in threads in the Off-Topic forum that guest users cannot post in the Off-Topic threads. But if they post in open forum their post can be binned, which is why posts from guest accounts are in the bin. However, when I log out, I can still read the contents of the Off-Topic forum. I'd suggest that access to the Off-Topic forum is limited to registered users only. Any thoughts from anybody?

Registered users can see what is available; if they don't like the Off-Topic they can choose not to see them. That's how it logically should work.

Already guests have to click on off-topic to see it, however yes, an opt-in idea is good. Some trashy stuff in there, especially when certain currently banned posters, individuals with very few personal boundaries, are around. It's now done this way for the Random Chat threads.

I'd imagine that limiting access to registered members only would also mean that the forum becomes invisible to Google's spiders.

A plus. Would it have that affect if it were just one section? I thought off-topic things didn't show on google.

I second that motion.

I support it too. Time and time again, we've seen that a certain type of poster loses interest in PF when their posts cannot be seen on Google.

a certain type of poster loses interest in PF when their posts cannot be seen on Google.

And another type of poster will lose interest when it appears to them that their trolling posts have been deleted (in reality the posts will have just been put in the bin, but as guest posters won't be able to see the bin to them it will appear that their posts were deleted).

Exactly. It's a fantastic idea, as it means those posters can be replaced with sane people who don't obsess over subjects that have nothing to do with Poland.

There should be a daily post limit to keep the number of trolls that are on here 24/7 to a minimum. See above^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Any of these Feedback threads will indicate who all the major complainers and the round the clock trolls are.

Its always the same handful of ppl complaining about the rules and the first to break them.

It's a fantastic idea

I certainly can't see any ways in which it might harm PF. I can see ways in which it would hugely annoying the few posters here who like to log out and then troll via guest accounts but that is also a positive for PF.

Perhaps Admin could comment on the proposal?
