The lines for the food were pretty appalling... not to mention the prices. $7 for 4 pierogi is frankly a rip-off.

Considering what goes into them, thats nothing short of a complete rip off!
A lot of the profits went to local polish organisations, keep in mind that food at venues are always very expensive, a meat pie at the MCG costs about 9$, etc, no one is going to sell food at cost price.
Yeah I guess... can't help but cringe at the price though having just arrived from Poland.
Speaking of pricey, I saw the restaurant 'Babka' in fitzroy is selling barszcz (beetroot soup) for $8.50! This defeats the whole purpose of the Polish expression 'tani jak barszcz' (cheap as beetroot soup) :D

things are more expensive here than in poland...you can get a bottle of chopin vodka in poland for equivalent of $15-20AUD but in australia it would be $60-70AUD.
it isnt too bad a price considering what some "polish" restaurants in melbourne charge.

i would say that this is the going rate for soup, especially in fitzroy.
Yeah I know it's the going rate, it's just funny how people think they're getting something fancy when it's just... barszcz.
Where are these other 'Polish' restaurants in Melbourne you speak of?

hahahaha...it's fitzroy. you could sell sh1t with a fancy name there and the trendies would still be all over it.
Where are these other 'Polish' restaurants in Melbourne you speak of?
they're more eastern european hybrids:
- court jester in brunswick
- borsch, vodka, tears in windsor (a sister restaurant right next door to elsternwick cinema)
- red lemon in richmond
- polish clubs in albion and rowville
I'm from Geelong & I'm Polish. I would love to meet more Polish people. Where would be the best place to go?
I'm looking too. All my friends and family are back in Poland.
I live in Southbank, Melbourne.

try this site, but the people may not be in your age range: dziuplamelbourne.com
there are also monthly (sometimes once every 2 months) polish dances, but it would be hard meeting new people there. but you never know.

yeah, vic market is dodgy now, 3-4 years ago you could get pierogi/bigos/etc that was sourced from the albion club. now they sell russian pre packaged pierogi. awful.

Still more expensive than the Wong Kei in central London, or the Kashmir in Bradford! :D
However, I do appreciate the effort which goes into making gołąbki (which is why I rarely make them, but I frequently make special fried rice lol), which makes good restaurant gołąbki well worth paying for ;)

We live near Kluska Restaurant and its pretty good. It reminds me of some of the things my grandmother made. Its located at 161 Foster Street in Dandenong, Melbourne. The prices are much cheaper than most. The website and menu can be found at http kluskarestaurant.com.au
