Work in Katowice -it's an industrial city and life in rather difficult there (?)

Hello everyone!
I hope someone will be able to help me out...

I'm Greek, 23 years old and I have graduated from Athens university with a BA in English Language+Literature.
I have worked in a bookshop for 4 years and did almost everything there (from orders to dealing with clients and from cleaning to setting the display window!). I have also worked in a language center and taught English to young/teen students. I am computer literate (I have also taught Microsoft Office) and I speak French, Italian and of course my mother tongue, Greek. My knowledge in Polish is basic, I would not imagine writing about it in my CV...

I have participated in many seminars and conferences related to Special Education. I'm really good with children.
The thing is, I really need to find a job in Katowice (or somewhere near, but I'll be living in Katowice) starting September or October...

I've been told that it's an industrial city and life in rather difficult there... in terms of finding a dignified job, house etc... I hope it's not as bad as I hear..

I don't know what I could do in a country where I don't speak the local language, and it's really ironic since my mother is Polish!! (no, she's staying in Greece...)

Any help regarding working opportunities will be highly appreciated!!
Thank you very very much*

Hi...

I've been told that it's an industrial city and life in rather difficult there...

Katowice is the capital of Silesian voivodship and is a part of Silesian aglomeration (many cities close to each other - together almost 3 million people) and this is definately not a poor region, however the main branch of the economy is heavy industry/manufacturing, so you would have probably many opportunities If you were a person with experience in mining or steel industry but in this case It may be difficult indeed... In Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław or 3city there are some multinational comapnies, which sometimes hire foreigners but there doesn't seem to be many of them in or near Katowice... Foreigners often teach languages in Poland but the schools want native speakers, not someone who just know the language (they could hire Poles then) and I don't know If there's any demand on teaching Greek...

Katowice is a hard place to get a job with your credentials. Many Poles are coming back to pursue employment and they will be first in line.
