Get a work sponsor or get married. If you're a student, apply for a tourist visa.

That is stupid.

why?

because it doesnt mention the fact that illegal aliens are very good for business - they usually work for minimum wage or less and they dont get out of line too often since they are in constant fear of getting deported or losing their jobs..they save businesses lots of money, so this "they cost us this and that" argument is irrelevant

Some of them even work on someone else's social security number.

and what?
Emplyer must withhold taxes anyway? The only thing which they don't have in that case is tax return if they paid more.

I can't wait till this idiot leaves.

I guess there is some "technicality" involving sharing of information that is holding things up?

President George W. Bush, trying to eliminate a major source of contention with allied nations, announced Friday that the United States is rescinding visa requirements for citizens of six European countries and South Korea.

Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and South Korea will be added to the U.S. visa waiver program in about a month. Each of those countries allows U.S. citizens to visit without visas.

Some lawmakers worry that visa waivers could make it easier for terrorists to slip into the United States. All of the countries added to the list agreed to take specific steps, such as coming up with tamper-proof, biometric passports that are difficult to forge.

I guess there is some "technicality"

The technicality is that over 3% of those that go to the US on tourist visa's don't return when they are supposed to. That 3% is the benchmark Poland must be under in order for Bush to allow them.

Many illegal aliens don't pay taxes because they are in the US illegally and don't file for them or else they will get caught and deported.
Some of them even work on someone else's social security number.

They work on someone else's SS# to get a job, because with out a SS# you cant get some at all. So they do pay taxes, and it goes under the credit of someone else's name.

Paying & filing income taxes is not a reason they would worry about deportation. The IRS & Dept of Homeland Security arent necessarily sync'd and dont share info just to deport people. Illegals dont pay taxes (or file for that matter) because they have a belief they will never be able to remain here legally and choose not to invest in this country. They think short term.

Not sure about that, I think it has to do with homeland security, more than issues with immigration.

"Bush said the seven countries added Friday agreed to share information about security threats to the United States, and their citizens would use a new system that requires travelers to register online ahead of their visits to the United States."

I would have to think that Poland would gladly share information about security threats to the US, even without a visa waiver.... And I would guess Bulgaria has more that 3% visa violations....

what the US really got at least from cech was full access to the national security database of all citizens and all of their private info as well as the right for us marshals to fly on all airplane flights in their country. i dont think polish people fought so hard for their freedom to give it up so cheaply

Kaczynski gives up a lot to the US cheaply. How about the missle defense interceptor in Poland? Wouldn't that be a great step towards "security"??? And yet, still no vwp.

I am really not sure what the argument is here. There is a reason Poles are not allowed visa free travel to the US...it was said above.

There is a mininimum threshold for illegals from a country for it to be allowed visa free travel. Poland has a higher percentage if illegals in the US than is allowed. The countries that are allowed have a number under that threshold.

This is not some conspiracy against Poland. Does it suck for honest Poles? Hell yeah. But it's not some insult or scheme to keep Poles out. Once the amount of people overstaying their legal visas goes down Poland will be admitted to the program.

What is so complicated about this?

Not really true. Greece has been under the 3% threshold in 2006... the threshold has now been raised to 10%, but Greece is still not in the VWP.

Ok fine...would it make you all happy if I said it is a conspiracy to keep dirty poles, their fake designer clothes, cabbage, smuggled cigarettes and bad customer service out of the US because America hates you? That we are just using you for a place to put missiles and some soldiers?

I know that is what so many want to believe. So believe it. :)

Greece is not a good example... until they agree on the use of the name Macedonia by their neighbor to the north of them they wont get the VWP... this was as of 2 weeks ago.

I would assume that in the next year or so Poland would be in with the VWP.

Do you think Greeks will ever agree to this? Greeks are one of the proudest nationalities, they will never change. Also, I never heard that a "name change" was required for VWP entry.

dirty poles

What do you think Poles think about you? white trash?

Hi -
Anyone out there that knows how difficult it is to get a student visa in the US for a Polish National?
I ask because short of shipping my new wife in a cargo container into the US, my lovely was an "over-stay" went back to Poland after 6 years here in the US, and now I can't get her back into the US it seems.......

Any advice....and any good news out there at all???
Please,
Gman

Read my entire quote and my past posts. I don't hate Poles and do not think them lesser people. I never insult them in such pathetic ways as you interpreted. That was a sarcastic reply to someone idiotic conspiracy theory.

Maybe read more before you lash out. And you are still wrong. The percentage must be met for a period of time so being under for 1 year doesn't cut it.

How long did they block her for? Does she have any official statement?

If she is not being allowed in how do you think a student visa will change anything?

Actually a lot of the illegal ones have or are leaving. Why stay and make $10/hr, when they can go to the UK or Ireland and make at least twice that and be "legal" and not worry about being caught.

The only people coming now, are grandma's visiting their grandkids, or people just to see the US. Now is hardly a time to flock.

Actually, so few people are coming/travelling, that LOT has reduced their flight schedule quite a bit.

Good, I hope they do.
The US dollar is gaining and they still overstay their visas. Prices from US on LOT are about $350 now, which is very reasonable, considering in the summer they are about $1200. There are still too many of them illegally in Chicago.

I was listening to a Polish talk show radio this weekend in Chicago and this Polish guy wants to buy a car but doesn't believe the mileage is accurate so he asks if the dealer turned back the meter. In US this is illegal but in Poland it's commonly done and unfortunately they bring with them illegal and dishonest ways.

Krysia. Yes it is illegal in the states to turn the mileage back. But there are still unscrupulous small car lots doing it.

It has been a long time since I left the Polish enclave. I am surprised as to what you are saying about the latest Polish arrivals. I believe you, for I have been out of touch, and have no knowledge of this.. Interesting.
