Hi,

Recently, I married my wife who is originally from Poland. Prior to our marriage, she and her mother lived in a very Polish section of Clifton, NJ. We just bought a house out in Hackettstown, NJ and I feel for my mother-in-law who feels out of place. Her English is not the greatest, and now she has to function more in an English speaking environment when previously, she could just speak only Polish in her neighborhood.

I would love to find some Polish speaking social clubs or associations that we all could join (especially my mother-in-law) so that she can feel more at home in our new environment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Been there, done that. No help

Hello Again.

Nobody has posted on this thread, so I do not know if there is anyone from North Western New Jersey who posts here. However, if there are, I do have some preliminary information to answer my own post.

As I have posted, my wife and I just moved to Warren County, NJ and took in my mother-in-law as well.

Very close to my town (Hackettstown, NJ) is a town called Great Meadows, NJ (only 6 miles away). There is a Roman Catholic Church called St Peter & Paul which has Polish masses on weekends (or so they advertise). As we need a new church anyway, this will be the perfect starting point to see what kind of social clubs can be around.

Just hate to leave an open question hanging... :-)

Cheers,

Karl

very Polish section of Clifton, NJ.

I've lived there. Fun place, Clifton. My cousin once had a pizza stolen by a group of latino banditos.

LOL!

Yup! That's the area! While I was dating my wife, there were 2 times that I pulled into a gas station after dropping her off just as the person robbing them was makng his getaway....

Try looking in here Kman67

Thanks very much, Zgubiony!

Most of those places are too far away for my mother-in-law. I actually came to this forum through the Polish Falcons of America, and found the church close to our house through the Polich Cultural Foundation.

I actually emailed the Polish American Congress, but they never replied.

Your list gave me a couple of other foundations that I haven't tried yet.

I live in northwestern Nj and that church is probably the only thing. There is a Polish store in Philipsburgh, but it may be too far away for you. I know some Polish people living in Budd Lake. Polish people are everywhere and since there is a Polish church in Great Meadows, there must be many of them in that area. I moved here two years ago. I don't go to church, but the church would be a start to find other people...

I think it is never too late to start going to Church. :)
