Why aren't Polish people immigrating to Canada instead of the UK?

with Toronto NOT being such a great place to live.

Oh, yah. That is what I hear from my aunties living in Hamilton or Oshawa too. I like it, it is crowded, had a mediocre public transport system, but there are so many things to do in Toronto that one wonders why so many people dislike it.

Most of Canada hates Toronto but I found home here and I am not gonna complain. For a big city it is still safe and fun. Otherwise it would not be so populated.

Anywho. There is Montreal, Vancouver, East Coas/West Coast/Muskoka/Great Lakes/ zillions of lakes/lots of snow and many other things.

One day I am gonna psot some pics.

If one wants the space: it is here. If one wants crowds, festivals and multi kulti, its here as well.

Off to Salsa festival and the Outdoor Art exhibition soon.

Not sure about disliking. The city is great for events, and when you live an hour away it's not such a big deal to come and visit, but I mean living there. That's a different story. Wouldn't you agree?

Miranda, c'mon, what kind of argument is this? :))
You can do much better.
Btw. Mexico City is even larger than Toronto so it much be so much better and safer to live there ;)

Also, consider the ethnic composition of TO. It's an immigration magnet, like many other large cities are. After all, what kind of chance does a current immigrant have in places such as Tobermory (population 3400) and practically no job opportunities for newcomers.

I agree with that comment. I just like the idea of not driving an hour or so. It is very convinient to live here. I usually stay around my area - West End which is really nice, with one of the biggest parks - High Park, Lakeshore, Bloor West Village and Roncesvalles is really changing and it is not all Polish anymore, but a nice mix of eclectic restaurants and stores.

Miranda, c'mon, what kind of argument is this? :))

LOL. I could do better but I don't feel like arguing with you Dariusz. I like it here and one either hates or loves it. It suits my needs but I understand that it migh not be to everyone's liking.

Btw. Mexico City is even larger than Toronto so it much be so much better and safer to live there ;)

Yes, it is bigger but it is not a city, it is a country in itself. I am not sure if it is safer than Toronto. I have never been to Mexico city and I have no intention to go there.

After all, what kind of chance does a current immigrant have in places such as Tobermory (population 3400) and practically no job opportunities for newcomers.

Agree, but it is nice in the summer. Toronto is not only attractive exclusivele to immigrants.

Besides, Toronto is close to a lot of attractive destinations in Ontario: Niagara region - 1.5. Muskoka Lake/Cottage country region: 2 and up. Georgian Bay - 1,5 and finally Algonquin Park: 3 hours. 10-12 hours to NY city etc. LOL.

Oh, Bruce Trail - 30 minutes depending on location.

i've spent more than a few years in various parts of canada and the first thing i thought of when i started reading the posts here was "oh give me a break."

if you've never lived in canada then don't beleive all the b.s. about how great a place it is to live and work.

Every body is waxing about the natural beauty but nobody's mentioning the go ahead the government has given mining companies to dump in lakes, or how the industrial mining and foresting is slowly but surely destroying the beauty the place once had.

You will also find that you can't just go wandering off into the forests. First of all it's really unsafe to go dashing into some random forest, secondly is that it's absurd (trust me if you've lived there then you'd know what i mean), thirdly is that most people live quite removed from mother nature and fourthly you may well end up trespassing. When most people experience nature in canada it is usually on the beaten path which is often covered in cement with wheelchair access and is full of all the kinds of people who like to wear heavy duty hiking gear while walking on a paved path.

when i went camping in the mountains i came across only a few canadians who actually went camping with a tent, (not out of a truck or rv or trailer) to areas with no running water (except from the waterfalls), where there were no lights at night except the moon and stars.

But forget about that because a canadian winter is about the roughest thing you can find this side of siberia, look for a minimum 6 months of snow on average. you will experience -30 temperatures in most of the country.

The people are quite boring and the cities are just plain ugly and every house looks the same. In fact i swear it is the crap design of the cities that makes the people so dreadfully dull. (think stucko strip malls with big car parks/parking lots) Look up "strip mall" on google images to see what fills canadian cities.

If you don't plan on owning a car then getting around in many (not all but many) cities is a nightmare and if you do own a car then be prepared to drive at an ever shifting but always very low speed limit. if you do speed then you will get caught and get caught often.

Canada has almost as much state control as communist cuba (no joke in fact the province of SK ranks just behind cuba regarding government control) and you can't say what you think too loudly or some fat arsed hr. cubicle queen will try to make an example of you, or worse yet there will be a "commission" to investigate.

commissions are popular in canada, it's the number one tool used by the government to convince the public they're doing something about a problem when really they're just doing damage control.

Canadians by and large are just like americans except they feel the need to scream as loud as possible about how humble they are.

oh yeah check out how many people the rcmp, opp and municipal police forces have killed with tasers in the last year or two, it's higher than 30 now i think. Oh and check out how the police pland provocateurs amongst protestors in order to give them an excuse to beat them in Montebello QU.

it can be a nice place but it's got nothing on the u.s. u.k. or poland or most of europe for that matter.

Foreigner4, I have a cousin who lives in Winnipeg and i visited them a couple of years ago. We drove to Grimly and through Ontario, very beautiful. I got to see what 'logging" looks like and what it is, we got to chat with truck drivers at truck stops in Ontario...

You took the words right out of my cousin's mouth. He/they spent over 20 years in Canada, but he said if they we younger, they'd leave for America or Europe. Their oldest daughter spends a lot of time in NY and considers moving there.

It is a great, beautiful country, but way tooooo much government. It reminds me the commy Poland i left long time ago. I shiver thinking that my 'merica is moving slowly that way. Hopefully, it will not to that extend.

(Please don't let Z_Darius to see your post....lol.)

city rankings in the world article

That survey just doesn't make any sense. How can the only UK cities listed there be London, Birmingham and Glasgow? London I can understand, but the other two? I wouldn't trust anything it has to say about Canada or anywhere else in the world, based on what it says about the UK.

Some people are not satisfied ,no matter where they live. They leave their place of birth.. They move and ***** about their host country. There is no one holding you... Go back where you came from... Canada will not miss you.

Franek, what is wrong with a little bit of balance. He is right about those things. Those are the facts. I like most of the things here but I am not a BLIND person, nor are other Canadians. Got it?

There are some points I don't agree with eg. Canadian government compared to communist Cuba and a couple of other things but if somebody is coming to Canada his post is very informative when taken with a pinch of salt.

I can come up with such a list about US - are you gonna deny it too?

Noooo! I can agree with you. But this is where I was born.
This is my country. We have our faults. But I will protect my country.. Good or bad.. GOT IT?
miranda
26 Jul 2008 /  #113
of course I got it. I still don't know what your point is. I wasn't born here and having an American telling me that if I don't like I should leave is beyond me.

You are honestly different than Canadians because I have never been told such a thing as long as I have been here.
Judging by your first post you have no idea what is going on in Canada.

I am not in US, so go and educate your own immigrants. I am sure they would tell you off........or tell you to mind your own bussiness.

no you didn't. Improve your reading skills. I am just telling you off in a nice, Canadian way. If that doesn't work, the f words will follow.

uhh, Franek, hate to break this to you but i'm not living in Canada, i'm living in Poland. However i was born and raised there and know a thing or to about the place so umm... yeah, deal with it.

if you'd bothered to read what i had written and compared it to what everyone else had written you'd see that i was just trying to dispell a lot of the canadian myths clouding the day to day reality of living in Canada (did i mention the min. 6 months of snow?)

As miranda alluded to, please go and work on your reading comprehension.

p.s. thanks for the defense in my abscence miranda and for being much more diplomatic than my first response would have been- you're all class. i was at a training camp up north in the middle of nowhere.

No problem.. At least you did not like it so you left.. Good for you. Some people complain about Florida.. So go home.. As for me I love it..As for Canada.. I stand by my statement.. It is a beautiful Country. That would be my next choice to live.

Why do Polish choose the UK over Canada? Well they've obviously heard how sexy us British are. Now who in the right mind would choose a Canadian over a Brit? :) Even

Canadian and American women love us... isn't that true! "Oh I love the British accent!" YES I'M SURE YOU BLOODY DO!

...Oh and the fact that Poles may need a visa to enter Canada...

it's true some uk accents can be quite stately (and some not as i'm sure you can attest to as well) but there is a je nais ce quois about you folk and i think it begins with a "c."

oh yeah that's right baby it's all about culture.

however poles don't need visas to enter the great white north.

....and in case you haven't been reading the other threads you may be surprised to find out the only thing polish women are attracted to are black guys. so says pf wisdom.

True... I can't stand the Brummy (Birmingham,) Geordie (Newcastle,) Mancunian (Manchester) and Scouse (Liverpool) accent myself. As for the rest of the accents it's enough to soak an American/Canadian woman's "panties" O.o :P

Anyway...

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The only think a white woman would find attractive about a black man is the drugs and to look like a "gangster YO!" No seriously, I myself find nothing attractive about a black woman, apart from some half cast women. They all look the same to me.
