Hi Folks

Really appreciate your help on this one. I have £4150 to transfer to a friend in Poland, which will be going to a polish bank account (trf into polish Złoty). Can anybody tell me the cheapest & most reliable way to make a one off money transfer, also getting the best rate available?

Many Thanks

I have used CurrenciesDirect.com and have had no reason to complain

Tell your friend to open an account in British Pounds. He can then get the cash out in British Pounds and the transfer should be free too.

I use Currency Solutions and get very good rates from them (much better than a bank will give me for drawing cash out of an ATM for example), but as it's a reasonable sum of money you should ring round some other currency dealers and do some haggling.

If you use your bank you will have a one off charge of approx £30 to do the transfer to a polish bank account if you want the currency exchanged prior to transfer into zloty then you will get charged approx. £22 for that privledge.

You may find that your bank gives you a worse rate than specialists like the two already mentioned, but it's worth checking.

i used [england.pl/money.htm] this little company only costs a fiver to transfer any amount of money you wish (there is probably a limit though ;), very quick and reliable.

Has anybody tried using a Prepaid Mastercard account to transfer money abroad or vice versa?

2 (or more) cards are linked to the same account and enable either person to withdraw cash at ATMs or make normal Mastercard purchases - dead easy.

I have used the facility in Spain and it works well and is so much cheaper than Western Union.

The explanation can be found on workerspayments.co.uk/e3.htm

If you use the search box you will see a few threads on this. Partly depends on the amount too. If it's a few thousand pounds or so then normally a currency broker is the way to go.
