i lhave been living in uk (on and off) for about 5 years and i think this country is very similar to poland.i vave setlled down very quickly made a few british friends,2 of them are going to poland in september at my wedding.the english language causes me a lot of trouble especially its pronunciation and understanding people from the north of country.i quickly got used to english food apart from fish and chips and all sorts of pies.the english are mostly polite and nice, both nations drink a lot and i think i like it here

Firstly, I am glad to hear that you have settled down well and are enjoying your stay.
In regards to your comment stating that the UK has many similarities with Poland, is somewhat debatable. I was born in Poland, however, have lived in London since the age of 6 and often go back home for the summer. Unfortunately, i do not see many similarities between the two countries, in my opinion they are a world apart!! Visually, economically, culturally... Although the fact that they both enjoy a drink is very true!!. The English are polite and nice, but also cols and distant. The many Polish people that my parents and i know in London are here purely for material purposes. They work here for a couple of years, save some money and go back to Poland to build/buy a flat. Many of them simply do not feel at home here, the only positive in their stay is the fact that they can earn in one week what they would earn in a month in Poland

I guess the key to your feeling good is that Brits are not disrespectful towards foreigners, while Germans and Italians often are.

Also, there are numerous similarities in cuisine, city lifestyle, interests and music.

I cannot agree that all Poles go to UK and try to earn as much as they can before they decide to go back. We must not forget that if earnings are quadruple, the cost of living is at least triple so their actual profits are not so astonishing. Besides I met many who declare that they wish to stay forever, that they only came to learn the language properly or experience something new before they settle down back in Poland.

Living it the Uk is a great deal easier. I arrived here with my English husband and 2 kids.He lived in POland for 13 years before and we decided it was time for a change. We didn't come here for better financial opportunities, but simply for a better and easier quality of life. The red tape in POland is horrendous. In the Uk I find it a lot easier and more relaxed. My child, who is bilingual loves her school and I can see the fantastic progress she makes. I love the British countryside, I live in a quiet village in Essex, people are friendly, smile, the pace of life is soooo pleasant.Back in POland I ran a busy school for kids and I was quite well off.But I had no time for the kids, the stress running a company was enormous. Here, I am happy.Im home.My home is here and my heart is here as well.I do miss the family, but I able to be a mother, we are able to live easily on my husbands salary, I can spend time with the children. It is easy to be a normal family, to have hobbies, interests and live simple, pleasant life.I don't agree with thousands of Polish people coming here, gold diggers, and sponging of the system.Yes, it is a lot easier and with the benefits POles are entilted to in the Uk it seems almost too good to be true.I despise of people, who have loads of property in POland and came here to stay, you they are claiming every possible benefit, hiding and disguisung their income and wealth in POland. It is well out of order. I think there should be some rule, and poeple should give something to the system here, rather than just benefit from it because they can.I am involved with our little community here, I feel I have a lot of more in common with the Brits than I have with the POles, but I am ready to give. I feel more British than POlish and I feel this country isn my home.I am embarrased by POlish people abusing the system. This should be stopped. LIfe should be easier here, but for the people who are willing to fit, give, as well as take and them they will feel a lot more welcome here.

This is what my friend explained to me when we first spoke. He highlighted how simple life in Britain could be in comparison to what his was before he came here. Another said that for the first time in his life, he actually has some money to burn on himself.

i must say i have accomodated myself quite fast over here as well. its a good place to be and the life standard is so much higher. plus like you i only miss my family really, nothing else. i learnt so much since ive been here and it gave m a huge confidence boost that i managed to survive all by myself in a foreign country. i dont really think about coming back to Poland, things arent looking great over there just now and id miss the money ;). plus im engaged to a Scotsman now and id miss him too. A wee bit ;).

damn, thats just how i feel! thats EXACTLY how i feel, i didnt think there were many Poles NOT missing Poland and always moaning about being in the UK. I kind of felt bad about being so happy and independent here and not wanting to go back, but hell its true, theres nothing in Poland i wanna permanently go back to. Good luck to you guys!

oh it's just in post #7 of yours you have quoted and my name is in those quotes -quite oddly, as I never said those things. Simple mistake, but I think we're out of the time limit (of an hour) for it to be edited anyway!

No biggie, people on here know (I think) that I am not Polish anyway (as the quotes make it look!)

If you highlight words someone says, you have to press the 'quote' button in their post, did you hit my 'quote' option with somebody elses text highlighted?

Only thing I can think of!

I've just moved to the UK and I'm finding it quite alright. It is really quite similar to Poland in many ways, but then again isn't all of Europe somewhat similar? Fortunately enough the language is not a problem for me hence I did not have any problems finding a job. How is everyone else finding it here?
