here's a secret to bread...
slice it, freeze it (in a ziplock), toast it when you want it and it tastes bakery fresh
once you know what setting makes it the way you like it you'll be set ^_^

yeah i do that, but then i'm not too keen on toast. i use it to melt cheese on it if anything :)

if you set it right, it actually does thaw it and warm it but doesn't quite crispify it... so the bread tastes nice and freshly baked. Toast = higher setting

I used to have the one which had the grill thing above the burners and it served well as a toaster as long as you remembered to turn your piece of bread over...:P

i use it to melt cheese on it if anything :)

hmmm... melted cheese.... my favourite! :D

The classic staples. Melted cheese, the food of students. Lovely!

Breadcrumbs? They are for the birds :)

Also very handy for kotlet schabowy, they make a nice topping for some veggies with melted butter, and are a decent filler for meatloaf / hamburgers.

I do like a good kotlet/cutlette. Some garlic butter melted on top is always welcome. Do you like Chicken Kievs, Shawn? We have them in abundance in the UK. I'd like to take them over.

Do you like Chicken Kievs, Shawn

Had them before, but never made them. Have done a variation of it involving rolling the chicken with cheese, proscuitto and some Italian type seasonings. Quite nice, actually.

I guess one thing that could be taken from the UK back to Poland would be a new found taste for a wider variety of cuisines.

How about it Wyspi? What new food adventures have you gotten into since you arrived? What would you take back in your cookbook?

Now you're talkin. Cheese, for me, is an essential component. The type that just oozes out, legendary.

We would all die without food.

Politics on the other hand, we could live without.

Korma. Indian seasoning? Not likely available in PL?

You can find such things in Poland, Shawn. You just need to look that bit harder. My friend here has it sent across from Scotland

We were trying to find a decent Parmesan cheese in PL (last time we were there) No Luck. Food importation business might be a good idea for the sophisticated / adventurous foodie!

I tried the same. Kraft is an international brand, Australian I think. They do a great parmesan but I can't find it here. The girl who used to teach at one of my schools now works in Canada for them. I'm sure they have it there.

Oh, I could try the expensive deli in Gliwice. They have all sorts of top products from around the world. I was shocked at how good their selection was.

Seanus, I said decent! Gotta be Italian!

Well, I can check the deli, I think they probably have some here.

I've got one for you...

I saw a shop in Stary Browar in Poznan selling all sorts of 'world foods'. I went in to laugh at how much of a rip off they are. First thing I see is a box of Weetabix with "SPECIAL PRICE - 1 POUND 29" written on it. I checked the Złoty price - 25zł...how I laughed.

The mark up is horrible. 35PLN for a half-litre of Haagen-Daz, that's about a tenner in real terms. You can buy wasabi peas for 7PLN in Tesco. They cost 16PLN in that deli. Nothing like 500% mark ups, LOL

Seanus where's that Deli in Gliwice you mentioned before? Do they have Old Speckled Hen?
Seanus  15 | 19666

That deli is on the market square, next to the kebab shop Istanbul.

Old Speckled Hen, I don't think so. Their beer selection is not that good. They have a few novelties.

The problem with a British summer is trying to predict which day it will be. And then if it will be morning or afternoon.
