i think you just want some attention
pretty sad really

He's got the right to his opinion. You can't call someone names or belittle him because he see's things differently than others and is more observant.

I live close to a very touristy town. They hire Eastern Europeans for the summer to work in amusement parks, hotels, restaurants. They are mainly from Russia, Poland, Romania, etc. Their service is terrible. They never smile, they seam always mad, barely speak English. You can't campare them to American workers where they are required to smile and treat the cusotomer as always right. The European workers never smile, they will argue with the customer and their service is very bad. They only come here for a summer job.

One girl from Poland said she can't wait to go back. They just do it for the money.

whereas we all know that the Americans do it for the welfare of the entire human race :-)

Some Eastern Europeans lack certain social skills that are taken for granted in the west. Cant blame them. Having lived over half a century in utter misery under a police state where everyone was suspicious of and spying on everyone else, they are bound to have some scars. They should be ok in a generation or two.

Two pints of Guinness and a packet of cheese and onion crisps is my record.

I think the OP has confused cold with initially reserved. The lack of smiling at the drop of a hat might allude to coldness sometimes. Here's some free advice coldpole - take the time to get to know one. You'll be remarkably surprised.

I wouldn't say they lack social skills, they are just brought up that way and they don't see it otherwise.
When pictures were taken in Polish schools they tell you not to smile. In the US it's just the opposite.

Think you're absolutely right there krysia :)

Why do people in the UK think that because someone is Polish then they automatically have to be very friendly to any stranger that may walk up to them.

It's weird !

coldpole

all i can add is yes the polish girls are nice too look at but nothing else its like they are all cloned the same in dress and manner

...Wow! Is that really so, I think not! Where has all this bitterness come from? I'm not an expert on human behaviour or that of a single nation of people for that matter, but my guess is that these girls are all individuals with individual personalities.

I have a really great Polish friend, he is the only Polish person that I am acquainted with, and I know that not all Polish guys are like him. The thing is we get on and click as mates...simple....

Maybe you're just trying too hard to accomplish something...relax, clear your mind and give people a chance....you may just get what you have been yearning for! LOL

I've yet to meet an ignorant, cold, miserable, moody Polish girl and I've met LOADS. When it comes to the day that I do then I'll ignore her completely and move along.

By the way in the US nobody smiles at the counter. Only the Americans tend to smile but the South Americans look miserable and moody and argumentive when serving customers. Why? I don't know. In the UK it's totally different. The policy is that the customer is always right. If a cust

Manchester is a **** miserable suck hole... But if you're from the South I have a duty to defend her :D

There are lots of Poles living around here. They all seem really sweet and polite to me?? Maybe I'm just misguided??

Manchester is a s--hole. I'm from the North near Blackpool! I'm 100% Northern!

Same when I lived in Nottingham, never met a bad Polish girl there and I've yet to meet a bad Polish girl here where I live now. They're the total opposite of what coldpole is describing. Then again, now that I have said that, I could come across a right arsey Polish girl tomorrow lol O.O

Behave - I love our city - it has given me much pleasure ;-)

LOL...now that's funny, you are from one of the dirtiest holes in the UK.

Of course I have... I have relatives that live in Warrington and Partington. I go about twice, three times a year. I've been to Salford to watch United many times. It's a complete s--hole.

LOL...now that's funny, you are from one of the dirtiest holes in the UK.

I didn't say I live in Blackpool. I said I lived NEAR Blackpool. I live in a pre-Roman town called Kirkham (Danish - Kirk "Church," Saxon - Ham "Settlement") which is bang smack in between Blackpool and Preston. It has a few nice cathedrals and churches and was once home to a Roman Fort. Heard of it? It is what is known as the Fyldes. Nice bit of history, great place to live. It is one of the safest places to live in Britain. The crime in the Fyldes is below the national average for the UK. No council estate scum... No crime, nothing. :) As I've said before, I moved here a year and a half - 2 years ago and I've yet to see a single crime committed (touch wood.) There is rarely any trouble on nights out as the police walk the streets here night and day, unlike for the whole of the UK. Just up the road from me there are nicely decorated flower beds at the side of the pavement. It has not been touched, destroyed, nothing. Elsewhere in the UK it wouldn't last 5 minutes.

So in your opinion you live in the safest place in the whole of the Uk because you have flower beds?

I lived in a small village called wardley in the borders of Salford for 23 years, and we also had flower beds, and I also never saw a crime committed on the streets.

That doesn't make it the safest place in Uk

As for your comments on Manchester, United do not play in Salford or Manchester, they play in Trafford. The area of Salford close to the ground is awful but not the whole city. How can you make such a sweeping judgement?

How do you compare a City of Salford or Manchester, with a market town of Kirkham

Kirkham Population - 7,127

Salford Population - 72,750

Mancheste Population - 458,100

WTF? The flower bed was an example haha! Kirkham is one of the best places to live in the UK due to crime rate being very low. It is one of the best places to bring up your children. I can walk the streets at night without being on edge. I don't care about the population differences. Regardless of population Kirkham is a much much better place to live than Salford, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham etc.

This is Fylde statistics table. The Kirkham statistics would be much lower but still Kirkham is part of the Fylde.

You are stating the obvious. I could pitch a tent in an empty field and it would be the safest place in the UK.

There is a difference between saying somewhere is not as safe as your village and saying somewhere is a s--thole.

If I found a place with less crime than kirkham, should I call kirkham a s--hole?
Arise_St_George  9 | 419
28 Aug 2008 /  #117
Not really no.. because the crime in Kirkham is VERY VERY low whereas the crime in the likes of Manchester is over the roof. There are many places like Kirkham, especially in Yorkshire and Wiltshire. Even without the comparisons it's still a s-hole. Guns, knives, rape, burglary. Did you know that Manchester was declared the European Capital of self harm? Need I say more. If you find a town that has less crime than Kirkham then congratulations. You'd obviously done some hard work.

All cities are s-holes but the big 5 are Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, London and Liverpool

Cheers for pointing out a few obvious things, but the comment about Man U playing in Salford did give me a bit of a larf :)

Arse you keep forgetting to mention that you have cat D prison on your door step one which prisoners walk out of on a regular basis! Yeah! Kirkham is really safe!

Enjoy the read.

Now at the end of the day, these five cities have awful areas i agree. But I can only comment on manchester, knowing there are some great parts. Safe, clean, nice parts.

This is my whole point. Some people would group your village with blackpool or preston and you would take offense. I do the same when I lived in a great village in salford and your on here saying all of salford is a **** hole. The bottom line is, that it's not. Some of it is, like with the whole of the Uk. Some people come on here and say the Uk is ****, because they saw 0.01% of it and didn't like it, or english are ignorant, because they met a few idiots.

Why do people make such sweeping statments? If your going to say manchester is a **** hole, be more specific. And don't be suprised when people who live there in nice areas take offense.

You are proud of where you live just as much as I am and we can throw figures and statistics around all day to each other, but they are not going to change 23 years of actual experience

very interesting statistics, sience 2004 in most areas (where citizens frm new Europe settle) crime has decreased. It shows only hypocrisy of British press.
