Lancashire is the best county to live in. There are many small villages where you would feel comfortable walking alone at night without the need to fear being attacked. Where you can bring up your children safely. I live in Kirkham and it is no urban area. People have alot of pride in these small villages. People, regardless of whether you know them or not, smile and say good morning/evening as you walk down the streets. There are a few villages like this in Lancashire. It's a good old fashioned English friendly village, HOWEVER they're less tolerant of non-whites compared to the South. So if you're black these villages perhaps aren't the best places to come to. Even in the pub during a football match you get people shouting "YOU BLACK B......" and nothing is said.

How about Lincolnshire? It's HUGE!

I used to live in a village called Little Bytham and I was always amazed by the safety of the place ... I often left my car and house unlocked. I remember being able to see a completely uninterrupted view of the stars at night.

Lincolnshire's great because it's got such a varied landscape. The flat fens down in the south where anything grows (but keep warm when the wind blows - it'll go straight through you) to the Wolds and the Lincoln cliff further north. Just when you think you've run out of county there's more the other side of Lincoln and beyond Market Rasen. It's also got some amazing coastline.

The only thing I don't like about this county is the Lincolnshire Imp - malevolent looking thing to have as a county symbol!

The UK is an old "time served" country! How much more can good old blighty take? 65,000,000 -75,000,000 living in a great country the size of a small state of America and still they come in their thousands.

I lived on the South Coast with three main motorways serving the district and still chokka at peak times. When are we going to start saying no??

It has to be Dorset. Look at what has come from there:

- Thomas Hardy
- Lawrence of Arabia
- The Tolpuddle Martyrs (birth of the trade union movement)
- Home of the best fossils in the UK (no, not Bournemouth's pensioners, I mean the fossil beds at Lyme Regis)
- Badger Beer

And if it comes down to a tie break, where else has a river called Piddle?

Dorset, Dorset, Dorset,
The county where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV.
Dorset, Dorset, Dorset,
It's the county for me.

Hampshire.
1. Winchester Cathedral has real kings buried in it (not those Anglo-Germans)
2. Sea port with 4 high tides per day
3. Irony - New Forest which is old and largely treeless
4. Climate - warmer than the North, dryer than the West and less snow than the East
5. Good Beer - Pompey Royal or Horndean
6. National Motor Museum (Beaulieu) & Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum
7. Cricket was invented here
8. You can understand the natives when they speak English
9. Jane Austen, William Cobbett, Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle, Craig David, Benny Hill, Ken Russell,
10. We've been dealing with foreign invasions for centuries

You can understand the natives when they speak English

The people of Clackmannanshire say almost the same thing.

Sea port

Is that the good one or the bad one?

11. It's not far from the Isle of Wight.

Argyll & Bute - if you're gale-, cold-, and waterproof. When I change oil in my au-to-mo-bile, I guess I know where to hit the road to.
