Does anyone have some good tips on spending a camping holiday in Zakopane in August/September. Can anyone recommend a good campsite and what about outdoor acitivities such as rafting, hiking etc. Are there any companies that organise these kinds of things in Zakopane?

Thanks!

Are you planning to sleep in a tent? In September, and in August as well depending on the weather, nights in Zakopane are quite chilly. (Once my friends persisited in sleeping in their tent in September, and were the only ones in the whole campsite bc the temperatures dropped below 0 C dergees at nights...) It might be better to rent a room - there's lots of pensions offering relatively cheep rooms, even in the very centre. Unless you're coming with your own caravan. I don't really know much about tourist facilities in Zakopane. Maybe some one else could help?

Good luck:)

yes, we are planning to sleep in a tent but perhaps it is better to rent a chalet or something.
thanks for the tip!

Sorry no.....not really my thing! I'm surprised at a nice Polish boy like you even thinking such things....I think you need to go to confession and speak to your priest

Well, what can I say - I`m very tollerant :)

But I am off to Wraclaw in Dec...just booked it....YEAH YEAH!!! how excited......

..and you probably want to go sking in Zakopane.

Not this time only there for a couple of days and I believe it's a beautiful city so wont have time - would have like to have travelled across when I was in Krakow a few weeks back but too much to see / do.

Hopefully travel down and get at least one day on the slopes in Feb when I'm in Krakow for a few days, but not sure as there are only a couple of us that ski - currently trying to enlist a few more of the girls and boys that do ski to come away - emotional black mail is working a treat!

What's Zakapone like at Xmas? We're thinking of maybe going skiing for New year and that's one of the places on the list

Hummmm not sure I'd call that kind of thing tollerent, I'm not homophobic re: men but the whole lesbian thing....it's unnatural

Zakopane is the "winter capital of Poland" - and the main point of going there during the winter is skiing. You can expect to see a lot of tourists there - most likely Russians.

I don`t know if traveling to Wroclaw during the winter is a good idea - winters can be very cold here if you`re not into winter sports and everything here looks a little bit dark.

I spent two weeks in Feb/March travelling round the Czech Rep........loved it...blizards

also less touristy suits me, better opportunity to see things and enjoy, even with - temps

it is pretty place but very busy with tourists for all year really.
But I suppose If you stay there you could make some short trips around.

Winter tourism in zakopane isn't as bad as the summer months. I was also there in October and it wasn't nearly as crowded. I love winter in Poland :)

We spent a week in Zakopane end of August and we stayed at a campsite in Zakopane, walking distance from the center. The campsite is okay, there is a camping shop, a restaurant and the toilet/shower blocks are okay if you're not too demanding. podkrokwia.pl

Make sure to have a good sleeping bag as in August it can already be very cold at night.

Zakopane itself is a bit too touristy for my liking but the Tatra's are truly beautiful and there's lots to see and do if you like hiking etc.

There are several travel agencies in town that organise hiking trips but you can also check out altius.pl they also organise rafting excursions, horse riding, mountain biking etc.
