Traveling to Poznan

Hi

I'll be flying out to Poznan from Los Angeles, California and plan on arriving on the 1st of January. A couple questions:

1) What kind of clothing should I bring with me?

2) Is $6000 USD going to be (comfortable) enough for 2 months? (I like to drink every once in a while ;-) Irish/American heritage :P)

3) Is it safe to fly out there during the winter months?

Can anybody give me some personal insight on Poznan and what to expect?

Thanks!

Danny

1) I guess there will be about 20-40 degrees.

2) For drinking that should do :). Seriously, don't know if you want to cover accommodation
costs in that amount, but either way you should be very comfortable.

3) As safe as everywhere else -- Poznan is one of the warmest cities in Poland so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

4) Using the search tool you'll find these results about Poznan.

I'll be in Poznan around the same time. It's going to be cold :) I was there this past Feb and it was below 0.

It should be enough. What will your living arrangement be? Beer and food are cheap.

Is it safe to fly out there during the winter months?

Yes. It's safe. If you're looking for trouble in the late evening, you can easily find it though....just like anywhere. There are a lot of young people in Poznan so there are a few fights here and there. One of the safer cities in my opinion.

Can anybody give me some personal insight on Poznan and what to expect?

After travelling to PL a few times I was fortunate enough to be able to see different cities all over the country and Poznan happens to be one of my favorites. In the winter months it might not be as exciting as the summer. There will be less people and the beer gardens won't be open....but many places to grab a cold one.

Merged: Travel to Poznan in June/July

Hi, I'm a US citizen looking to travel to Poznan for vacation. I've never traveled outside of my country before though, so I have no idea what to expect in terms of expenses, or the procedure to follow. I know I need a passport and a visa, but I'm not sure of the procedure to follow to obtain the visa, or what to do afterwards. I'd greatly appreciate help with the process, and an estimate as to how much money I'd need to stay. The longest I'd be staying is a month.

I also have a lot more questions to ask any particularly nice person who is knowledgeable of the city itself.

After some research, I'll probably be staying at the Frolic Goat Hostel, and leaving on either the 25th or 30th of June to stay for two weeks.

I'm not a drinker, so alcohol isn't a factor. Breakfast is provided, so I'll only need to figure for two meals a day. No gas needed to figure in either.

I'd also like to learn enough Polish to introduce myself and ask if someone's home...I plan on surprising a good friend who lives near the hostel.

I'm flying into Poznan, so I would assume whatever international airport they have there. I don't know the specific name of the airport.

Yes, I do.

dt,

I thought you might come into Warsaw.

some others here will tell you how to get around town.

I think poster Fisz is best qualified to answer some of your questions. Wait for him to reply.

Finding my way on foot has never been much of an issue, it's when I get in a car I'm hopeless ^^ But any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Will do.

I know I need a passport and a visa,

No Visa is required. Just a valid passport.

and an estimate as to how much money I'd need to stay. The longest I'd be staying is a month.

Where do you plan on staying? Hostel-Hotel-Host Family?
If you'd like a host try here:
secure.hospitalityclub.org/hc/hcworld.php?country=155

There may be someone nice enough to give you a room/bed and assist you with translating or getting around. You do need to learn how to purchase tickets for the bus. I'd also brush up on your Polish :) It will help alot. Just keep in mind that it may be frustrating to get around, but be patient and don't lose your cool. People can easily avoid you if you're irate :)

Poznan airport used to be an airforce base. It's really small, but friendly.

Ok I see you chose the Hostel :)

I have a little info and pics here: members.virtualtourist.com/m/a3382/

I hear the Frolic Goat is a nice choice. There's also the Dizzy Daisy. Let me know what type of music you listen to and I nay be able to point you in the right direction.

I have a friend who lives in Poznan who is going to show me around and help me out ^^ I talked to her last night about it.

ble to point you in the right direction.

I'm open to any kind of music, though I have yet to find a rap song I like.

Also, should I decide I'd like to stay (honestly not very happy in the US), is it possible to work out a way to stay in Poland while there, or would I have to go back to the US first?

Hey, a man's gotta cover all his bases before he does anything, right?

Most likely have to return to the US. They won't let you stay more than 90 days. Also, you'll have to speak PL....unless you want to teach English privately.

I'm sure your friend knows the placs to take you to. You'll probably be ok just saying in and around the Stary Rynek.

Here's a list of Pubs/Clubs:
