Hi Folks

I am Scottish & travelling to Katowice airport on Saturday :) I have tried to source my Złotys in Scotland but the rate is very low. The rate was 5.5 or something last year!

The highest i can find (with someone who speaks British) in Katowice airport is 4.24, can somebody let me know if this sounds ok? I thought it was pretty good for an airport, considering the current decline with foreign money :(

That sounds about right - check out xe.com for the latest rates.

Overall, not great for Brits travelling to Poland :(

Or Brits doing business in Poland :(

Or indeed for Brits wanting to buy property in Poland (like myself)

I've never really aspired to buying property overseas... until I was at the Baltic coast last week... suddenly the idea of a wee bolt-hole became very appealing...

It must be beautiful there :) I'd like to see it!

I'm heading to Mirów for a month, then brits are following me over for riding holidays!

Anyone know the best place to check in the UK for holiday money? Thanks

Post office is usually your best bet - though the reality is that I almost always end up picking up my currency at the airport.

I normally just bring sterling with me from the UK and use the little 'kantor' cubicles that you find in town centres. Often they are the best rate and if you exchange enough you can haggle with them.

You have to be kiddiing!! The post office!! Their rate for Zloty is about 3.80 to the £ and Euro's are about 1.19 to the £

Best place in the UK is Kensington Money Exchange online. Zloty was 4.12 to the £ last week and Euro's 1.24 today.

I use this company all of the time. You pay into either Lloyds/ RBS and then its with you next day by Special Delivery.

Post offices though you usually need at least 3 working days for zloty to be ordered in
Money Shop 48 hours and zloty will be in one of their shops
any bureau change place though again expect several working days

as you are going on saturday i would say wait till you arrive till you get zloty you may get a better rate

todays rate of exchange for zloty is as follows:

1 GBP = 4,2529
1 EUR = 3,3543
1 USD = 2,1293

courtesy of the national bank of poland website

1.00 GBP = 4.23752 PLN
United Kingdom Pounds Poland Zlotych
1 GBP = 4.23752 PLN 1 PLN = 0.235987 GBP

Best place IMO is a Bank -o- mat

I presume you mean an ATM? If so then the rate you get depends on what your bank back home charges you, which varies.

I am with Lloyds TSB in the UK and their rate is pretty good, but I still can get a better rate by bringing cash and using the little 'kantor' booths.

Thanks guys, think the kantor in the airport is the best bet then, looks like he has pretty competitive rates :-)
