I am trying to decide whether to stay in Wroclaw or go to either Poznan or the countryside ov er the Easter weekend, but first can someone tell me whether Poland, basically, closes down over the Easter period. I remember at Christmas that from Christmas Eve evening (24th Dec) to the 26th there is very little, i.e. shops/pubs/restaurants open. Will it be the same in Wroclaw, Poznan and the countryside over the Easter weekend or will some places be open? If so on what days? roughly.

About Easter..
What's Easter like in Poland? Do you paint eggs too? Do your parents hide chocolate eggs outside and let the children search for them too? How about the Easter Bunny? Do you visit Curch with Easter?
Basically, what are your Easter traditions?

Before anyone books a holiday on this date beware! That was last year 2007...
This year easter weekend falls on the 21st -24th March, Good Friday being on the first day of spring.
There was a law passed in the fall of 2007 that forces every business to close on Catholic holidays which includes Easter. Absolutely nothing is open. You might find a gas station or select trains and transportation working, but on a limited schedule. Poland essentially becomes a ghost town on these days.
check out this place for easter weekend its about 150 km from wroclaw, an easy 2 hour drive
