Another way of getting to Auschwitz is to take the bus from Krakow's bus station which is located behind Krakow's main railway station at ul. Bosacka. The bus will take you directly to the Auschwitz museum, although journey times are longer than by train. Organised tours might be the preferred option for those who don't wish to use, or don't feel confident in using, public transport.
The Auschwitz museum provides a shuttle bus service (free of charge) to Birkenau that operates all year round, however it run less frequently from November until March. If there are no convenient buses available it is possible to get a taxi to Birkenau.

That's what I did.. and we boarded the bus at the Holiday Inn. (Arranged for the tour from a tourist office near the Cloth market Plaza area.) Worked out great.. the bus took us to both camps.. tour lasted 4 hours.

For future reference, search in google for tips how to get the Oswiecim. If you put in google " auschwitz everydaykrakow " you will find the description of Auschwitz tour, as well as tips on how to get there. Buying an organised trip is good, but you can also get there by bus or train.
Thanks Barbara, the receptionist at the Holiday Inn sorted it all out. Ending upgetting the 09:10 bus and then back at 15:05, so had the chance to have a very good look around. Have previopusly been to Dachu and went round the Warsaw Uprising Museum 2 days previous so I know now a lot more than i did a week ago.
Only downside was by the time we got back to Krakow, it was getting to dark to spend any amount of time at the CWGC Cemetery, so maybe next time

Remember never buy your bus tickets the night before. Go to the station (by traveling under the train station from Old Town) in the morning, find a bus leaving with Oswiecim and pay the driver directly. Then you can just pay a driver for the trip back. If you take the train you'll just hop on the same bus that leaves Krakow from the bus station so it generally doesn't matter what you take.

What was your impression of it?
