Flights to Krakow from Leeds, Bradford, or Doncaster

I hope to fly to Krakow from either Leeds/Bradford or Doncaster, 02/10/08 returning 20/10/08 (these dates are approx and can be slightly altered).
So far WIZZAIR offers the best value but I'm unsure of a few things.
1. How far is KATOWICE/CRAKOW airport away from KRAKOW and what options/costs are entailed in travelling between the two?
2. Baggage is charged per item. Is this usual or is the charge for extra luggage?

Any suggestions or advice are very welcome.

"Krakow"-Katowice is a bit like saying "London" Stansted LOL!

Best way to get to Krakow is to get a bus - check out the website for Katowice airport for the details.

Re baggage, yes - this is pretty standard for the low cost airlines. If you can manage with just hand-luggage, then go for it. I flew to Szczein a few weeks ago, and tried really hard to cram everything into hand-luggage, but ended up shelling out extra for checked luggage as I'd have to faff around, decanting my toiletries into smaller bottles etc.

Krakow and Katowice have two different airports. Krakow is about an 1 1/2 hours by train from Katowice. However the airport in Katowice is outside the city, another 30 minutes minimum by bus just to get to the city of Katowice.

Krakow and Katowice have two different airports.

Yes - Krakow Airport (John Paul II Int'l) is the closest, however Katowice is trying to get in on the act, with some of the low-cost airlines calling it Krakow-Katowice. It is the latter that Arctic Paul is flying into.

Really? They renamed it? Haha that's funny. It's not even in the same region.

I don't think that the airport renamed it - the airlines did. Afterall, more British visitors will have heard of / and will want to fly to Krakow than Katowice.

Similar deal with "London" Luton and Ryan Air's "Frankfurt" destination which is about a two hour bus ride from Frankfurt :D

Doncaster,

KATOWICE

well you would land at 0145am polish time at Katowice airport then wait till 0415am for the transfers then you arrive into Krakow at 0615am approx

Leeds/Bradford

KRAKOW

You land in Krakow so closer than Katowice really

Baggage is charged per item. Is this usual or is the charge for extra luggage?

You are allowed ONE 20kg bag PER PASSENGER now with Wizzair any more than this (not including hand luggage) you will need to purchase online at a 50% discount the excess weight you intend to take with you

We arrive 01.45am on 4th Sept from Doncaster and when we booked our Wizz air transfers-says 02.15am pick up, not 04.15am. Its £22 pp return from Katowice to Krakow.

matuszek.com.pl/wizz/rjp.htm

read the list on the link above:
Doncaster to Katowice
flight arrival 0145am
bus departure 0415am
bus arrival at krakow 0615am

im flying 1st September from Doncaster and again on the 21st September ...

plus its cheaper to book direct with the link above than pay for the airport transfers via wizzair as they charge a further £26 on top :)

I know what you are saying but honestly, when we booked coach transfer on our confirmation its says 02.15 departure. It didn't say that on the timetable;said 04.15. I am not complaining though, means that we dont have to hang around now!

well i will let you know as i fly 3 days prior to yourself and i booked transfers with the company direct and saved £26 :)

the only thing that is amazing me on the timing with your booking is that the plane lands 0145am bus departs 30mins later .. i would like to hazard a guess that it takes more than 30mins to disembark from the aircraft .. process through customs and immigration and then collect baggage from the baggage reclaim area ... but thats me ... :)

have to update when you travel and have a nice time in krakow .. when you arrive though :)

Thanks telefonitika. I emailed the bus company as I was still concerned myself this morning and asked about the timetable saying 04.15 and my confirmation saying 02.15-their response;

New departure time is 02.15.

So I have to trust that it is and will take my emails etc with me.

How do you reach £26 savings?
I have the choice of booking as an additional option with my wizzair flight for £24

or book direct for 88pzl (which will be more than £20).
