Go to Dom Vikingrow in the main square. The bar maids are the best especially Barbara (Pasche?)! and the beer and food arent bad either! ATB were in the main restaurant when i was there.

I agree - am from Warsaw, but have visited Stary Browar a number of times, and had much too much fun, probably together with the much too much alcohol :P

One place NOT to go: Hostels in Slovakia. They torture young people there and cut their fingers off, their eyeballs and all other cool stuff.

The movie "hostel" says it all ;)

I don't like this place. People here seem old and it's too relaxed.

Blue note is ok, but it's usually hip hop.SQ is mostly House and Chill out.

Lizzard King is a nice atmosphere. Plays mostly rock, but not a club.

A popular foreign place is Dragon bar. I really like the atmosphere. It's pretty chill in the basement.

There's Tuba if you like the tanned look and huge muscle heads dancing on the bar shirtless.

Alcatraz is mostly hip hop, but an ok place.

Valhalla is rock/gothic

Morphine is worth checking out for live music

Maybe you can take her for Italian food (sth different ) There's a nice place called Figaro or a Greek place called Mykonos which has pretty good food.

Thanks Zgubiony. thats great help! So you get alot of foreigners in poznan. I would have thought most people would head down to crakow, warsaw and zakapane as they are more well known to visitors. Dont worry guys...im not paronoid, just doing my research! :)

i'll be sure to check out out all the places you said.

So what else does poznan have to offer in the daylight. any pretty historical places and parks? Im sure its not just a place to get wasted....am i right? heheh although....i dont mind.

Yes, there are more and more. There's a medical university in Poz.

There's Biskupin about 2 hrs away. This was once a Pagan settlement that has been rebuilt and is worth a visit.
Stary rynek of course
Kornik Castle
Raczynski Palace in Rogalin
Gniezno
Poznan Cathedral
Citadel (Army museum)
Lech Brewery
Paris church (Stary Rynek) I'm not one for religion, but this place is absolutely breathtaking.

These are just a few things you can do. You'll find stuff while you're there to keep you busy.
Let me know if you need help with anything else.

I am British and i live in a town about 90miles from Poznan - i have been there 3 times now and have enjoyed myself everytime! Also my french friend lives there and there are loads of people there that speak english - prob because it is a University City.

The places that i went were Dragon which is cool for a chill out, jazzy kinda place (in fact there were an english couple sat on the next table the last time i went in there!), Proletaryat (this is how its spelt - its not a typo), with a communist theme was interesting and the bar staff were really cool, johnny rocker has live bands on but it was a bit too "hard rock cafe" for my liking and Piwnica 24 on ul. Wielka had a nice atmosphere too... I would recommend looking on - poznan-life.com - i personally really like the city - just be careful not to stroll into one of the tourist traps where the prices are too much for what you get! You'll have a great time :)

13 Jan 2008 /  #24
No, don't know Konin, sorry. I live in a 'city' called Gorzów, half way between Berlin and Poznań. I have only visited the centre of Poznań, not the surrounding areas. If you go into the city you are sure to enjoy it. It's got a nice atmosphere - or at least i thought so :P

Where are you from?

What is the name of the bar in the main square that is underground and has snakes and terrapins at the bottom of the stairs as you go in?

Seem to remember it had a few lesbians in.
