Hello all, I would like to move to Poland this May and work as a freelance esl teacher or proofreader. I've taught ESL in Poland before and loved it. I want to go back. I don't speak Polish, though, so I would be looking for someone to help me advertise--for a small fee. If you or anyone you know would be interested in helping along those lines please let me know. Thank you.

If you want to work as a proofreader, you would do well to learn about something called the "comma".

You can contact us at lindenia.net, we will be able to help :)

Harry - is it true what they say about proofreading being well paid but very tedious? It's not the kind of thing I can imagine ever doing, but I suppose knowing about the industry would be useful..

It can be well paid but is hard to get into. You won't get the well paid jobs unless you can prove you have the skills they demand but you won't get the skills they demand (or proof) unless you do the job. I had to build up ten years' experience writing (professionally) and editing plus more than a decade of teaching English at high business levels before I even made it to an interview for a decent proofreading position. An alternative is to freelance but again there's the catch 22: you don't get decent clients until you've got a decent work history to show them but you don't get a decent work history until you've got decent clients. And then the work can be very much famine or feast.

The job can be (and often is) mindnumbingly tedious. But the real problem is that people who pay you well expect you to work as and when they need you to work: if that means you should have finished at 5pm but instead you finish at 5am, that's just the way it is. The longest shift I ever did was 38 hours straight.

Thank you for that, it's appreciated :)

I won't ask how much your eyes must have hurt after 38 hours straight!
