Received a property in Poland in a Will. Whats my best option?

Well it turns out that I have a peice of Land in Poland left to me in a will from a relative. They passed away years ago but I have just found out about this. I have no plans on keeping the land and would like to sell it soon. I believe a family friend in Poland has found a group of people that would be interested in purchasing the land.

The question I have is where may I find more information for transferring funds from Poland to here in the US. Also, what costs and things like this that I need to look into for having a transaction happen in Poland but haveing the money left over transferred back to me here in the US.

So far the one peice of info I have found as I have just started doing research is that Citibank has branches here in the US and Poland and I may possibly go over and talk to them to see if I can get more information. If anyone has anymore information they could provide I would greatly appreciate it.

Wait for real estate to go up once Poland becomes more stable economically. Will be more worthwhile :)

That is an option but I honestly don't feel like waiting or anything like that. I do not own a home or any real estate here in the US. This money would allow me to easilly put a down payment on a home and be able to afford a monthly payment on a place I can own.

That depends.....how much you own???

Cuz we still have like 30 acres of land near Nowy Targ over in Poland, and we are waiting :)

what are you waiting for Artur ? to sell your family land? or are you saving up your zloty to build? :)

is the land in the Wroclaw area residential, farm land or forested area?

Its a residential area, near a highway type road. Its right behind 6 homes, so an option is to have all 6 homes buy a peice of the land to extend their properties. Or to split it in 2 separate areas of land or sell as one peice.

There is no electricity or water running through or under this land so haveing all of the 6 land owners buy a peice would be best but I am still unsure if they will all agree to this as its all or nothing with that situation.

My biggest problem will not be finding buyers for the land its figuring out the financial situation with this. I am being told I have to pay a tax for taking over the land from my grandmother because of the will. Then after selling the lot im not sure if I will get taxed again if I am transferring the money from Poland to the US even if I use the same bank.

I would keep the land until its value goes up and there is a big chance that it will go up. If you sell now my guess is that it is not worth more than $5000.

Whatever you do though, don't get screwed, trust me, people will try to take advantage of you.
