Opinion: UN Calling - Where is Poland?

When Poland joined the UN in 1945, some saw it as the first step towards the country regaining its former influence on the world stage. Of course, that was before the realities of communism locked the country behind an Iron Curtain and put aside any hopes of it participating as a fully-fledged member.

Come my Polish Brothers and Sisters.. get in there!! make your voice heard!

yeah, you will argue about obama, but I dont see many coming in and talking
about why poland doesnt speak up with U.N. issues, especially when it comes to
human rights..

While Poland should participate in such forums it will hardly make Poland noticeable on the world stage as the author suggests. UN human rights commission is a joke as one has to offend the biggest offenders. Politically it is not smart to point out to the US that torture is wrong. They already know that. I don't see a huge outcry in the US against that US policy either. Everyone knows their place.

Excatly in fact in my model U.N. class last semester I was representing Poland and I made an U.N. resolution condemning the CIA secret prisons. I got a C on the resolution because realistically Poland would never challenge the US on human rights.

That is good move by Polish government. There are important issues and on the other end there is the UN.

The UN, the good old cowards who are convenient to criticise when things go wrong. The Dutch peacekeepers, what a joke! Those fannies had the audacity to party too.

Poland is in central Europe :)
