HUMANE TREATMENT FOR CHRISTMAS CARP in POLAND

Poland's animal-protection law also extends to the manner in which Christmas carp are stored and sold.

They had a whole batch of carp with no room to swim in Carrefour. I thought that was rather off. It was worse than cage treatment, they were tightly packed together and they should have done it differently.

and children are not allowed to witness the act of killing

Really? Seriously? Kids might be somehow harmed if they found out where their food came from? Scary the way things are going...

There is a somewhat embarrassing carp-killing story I told my coworkers one time, and now I have to repeat it every year. Short of it was that one year my father decided to take a more active role in family Christmas preparations and offered to kill the carp. Before my mother knew what was happening, my father charged into the bathroom with the shotgun and blew the carp away. Literally. He was lucky he didn't get hit by the ricochet off the steal bathtub. Needles to say, it took forever to get all the pellets out of the fish. The end.

Carp here are considered an invasive species and are not to be thrown back when caught. They are to be killed.

FSTOP was dad drinking?

If I had a pond anyone could steal as much carp as they wanted. Turtles too.

Yup. In US it is illegal to stock carp even in your own, private pond.
Koi, which is in the same family (I think), is OK, but who wants to eat koi??
Seriously though, Polish carp is not a garbage fish like an American carp, I've been told. Szlachetny.

Nope, he does not drink at all. He is a "scientist". ;)

I used to bow-fish as a young man quite frequently. I may need to get back into it. Looks like the Illinois river is the place to go for a good time. This video is just so typically American don't you think? Could be a Pol-Am fishing tournament in the works...

Wow... I was not not only "allowed to witness the act of killing", I was usually doing the "killing" myself. Hopefully the EU will ban the Carps, so there won't be the new generations of murderers... Oy !

So where do you draw the line when it comes to animals? What if I killed a cat or a dog, would that be ok?

If you did that to someone's pet, you should die but some people in Asia treat dogs as a source of meat and eat them - as disgusting as It may seem to be for us, It is perfectly normal for them.

So where do you draw the line

Between killing for sick pleasure and killing to prepare food.

Fine, you can kill the fish but try to make sure that it has some room to move around.

I saw dog meat in Seoul, Greg, not a pretty sight.

Ach, laddie, that's not the point! ;)

Asians just have a different approach but there are many sensitive souls among them that wouldn't condone such inhumane killings. Trust me, I have met them.

You want to turn the whole stores into the swiming pools for Carps, so they feel comfortable for the 2-3 days before they die ? You know what ? Go hug a tree, I'm sure they need that when It is so cold outside.

Hell no, they're evil, you can tell by them not being white. I've seen a thai restaurant in London serving hamsters, Jesus i was running for the hills (is it even legal in UK?).

This has nothing to do with carp... but with inhumane treatment. We went deep-sea fishing in Hawaii and caught a marlin. When we brought it into the boat, the captain took a ball bat and beat the holy heck out of that fish to kill it. I was mortified. I thought that was pretty inhumane.

Sokrates, I don't need to mention how brutal white men have been in the past. Serving hamsters is just wrong. Are you sure it was hamster? That's rotten!

Greg, I'll let you do that instead. I see you haven't read the thread above.

We actually wanted to return it to the ocean. We had no way to keep it. We fish and release.

I wasn't talking about the eating of it but the treatment of keeping it in conditions where it can't move. That's wrong!
