In this Polish girl's opinion watches are a very considerate gift

apparently if you buy a watch, you are counting the minutes till the end of relationship....weird!!

I got told off once for buying a dozen red roses for a Polish Lady. Apparently even numbers are for funerals and I should have bought an odd number of roses. Actually i got told off twice for it - the wife wasn't too impressed that I had been buying flowers for ladies, even ones recovering from an operation.

My heart nearly stopped when you mentioned it was bad luck to buy a Polish girl a watch!!

I bought one for a polish girl. A DKNY one. I dont want her thinking I am being horrible to her.
Is it bad luck to get a watch? as in Polish tradition?

i dont think she will mind getting a nice watch. all these superstitions are ridiculous, i dont understand why some people take it so seriously...

I think if you buy an expensive gift for your girlfriend,it is considered bad luck in polish tradition.
So you 'd better avoid any Mazzerati or CLK.

I've been repeatedly told by my girlfriend and her family that a gift of shoes are bad luck too ... which is rather annoying because i know she LOVES shoes and I found a pair I know she would love ... we should all start a new superstition: all superstitions are bad luck! :P

just get them a voucher and they will spend it on their favourite shoes, watch or whatever, it doesnt bring bad luck if you buy it yourself ;)

Dolce Gabana's "Light&Blue"

that is nice. try Anna Sui 'Secret Wish' or 'Glow After Dark' by JLO, very nice, fresh scents

What she will really like is if you make your own *special* perfume for her. It's not hard to make such, just use your fantasy! :-) Maybe something with licorice-water, lemon juice and a bit of baby blood. And when you give it, just make sure she will put it on, even when she tells you that she want to save it for later, because she finds it to precious. ;-)

Times change so I can't say how gifts are perceived in Poland now, but two general rules I remember were these:

- No presents that may imply hurt - no sharp objects such as knives, scissors (even the manicure stuff, weapons etc). Exceptions: presents bought for a collector and such.

- no articles that may implies deficiencies in the receiver's hygiene. Parfumes would be OK, but not deodorants, soaps etc.

What if she's allergic to perfume? Why not give her something she's not obligated to wear?

ok, what if you buy her 11 roses, and when she asks you why just 11 roses, say to her, because my sweet you are the 12th rose,

cocco channel

My mom wears that stuff; the scent is a little too strong. He's better off buying a young lady an assortment of fragrances, from Victoria's Secret.

Get a perfume gift set, they are elegant and have great options. There are nice parfume sampler sets, at like victoria's secret. I work there and know this is a great go-to option for men because it's easy and the label is very recognizable and women are always smelling and loving the parfumes. Or think of the perfume she's like and get a lotion/frangrance gift set.

Also if you can be real casual, go shopping at a department store with parfumes and go through the section and act curious smelling things, she'll usually follow most (most women can't avoid testing the parfumes!) and find a couple she really likes.
