Can I transfer my current mobile number to a local Polish provider?

Hi All,

Moving to Poland in August and I overheard a Scotisch girl say she kept her british mobile number and transferred it to a polish provider. If it is possible can anyone tell me where to go and how the procedures works?

Second query: What are the best providers (cheapest) for mobile phones in Poland?

Thanks,

Paulus

Impossible to say where you would get the best deal. They are all so different.

I would just get a second phone. If you are moving here you could also get a land-line, which you might use for the internet connection.

I very much doubt it, whilst there is O2 in Poland it will be a different to the UK, just like O2 on line and O2 on the high street different parts of the company and not really connected.

I'm quite sure it is impossible yet... of course technically with some hacks, much $ to spend it can be done, but that's another thing.

It's impossible to transfer a number from one country to another.

You can transfer your number between operators in a given country, but not to another outside the country.

Maybe your friend was roaming?

Correct. Also the fact that different countries use different options for implementation of Mobile Number Portability (there are actually four different techncial methods) means it will likely never happen. Also the take up of MNP is actually very low within even the most developed mobile markets. I know you can have your 'old' number calls diverted to you new number but it is expensive as you have two contracts to pay for and the 'old' number calls get hammered by roaming charges which as we all know are very high indeed. Bottom line - get a new local number and transfer all the names.
