Spending a few months in Poland

Hi :)

I'm considering moving to Poland for a half year or so with my work (tri-city), but I've never been there before so I thought I'd get some more information about it.

I don't speak any Polish (although I'm trying to learn :p) How much of a disadvantage would this be in day-to-day life? Does your average Polish person speak some English / German?

Can anyone tell me what the cost of living would be like, eg monthly cost of renting a flat, food, transport, stuff like that?

I hear a lot of people teach English, either as their main job in Poland or part-time. Is this easy / fun to do?

Thanks :)

Katten

You will survive , i am an Englishman who speaks very little Polish , i live here , and i get by....Find your self a good friend that speaks a bit of English when you get here , and bluff your way through the rest....You will soon pick up enough Polish to get by....Buy yourself a Learn Polish cd , and learn how to say hello , goodbye , please , and thank you...Come on over , its nice here....

renting a flat ~ 1000 - 2000zł per month
food ~ 1000zł (?) depends on how much you eat:D
public transport ~ 100zł per month (?) depends on where and how often you want to travel
nightlife ~ 50zł - ...? per night
cinema ~ 15 - 20zł

I know:) but when I go with friends to a pub or a disco (in case of disco 10-15zł for entry), drink not more than 4 beers :D (4x 6zł =24zł), and take taxi home (5-10zł when we share costs) I spend about 50zł.

of course if we take drinks (more expensive than beer:D), bowl or play billiards, eat sth etc we spend much more

50zł is a minimum

Yeah, that should do (don't exaggerate with girls, though).

Yes, you can but the pay is lousy or so I have been told.

Not so easy , especially if you have not taught before.....I found my self doing it , and even ended up teaching little monsters ( kids ) Thankfully the children in Poland are quite nice people compared to the UK , and i did enjoy it.....One sweet little girl even brought me flowers to the school....How could i not enjoy that....The money was not great , but i don,t have a mortgage or rent to pay , so it was enough....

you took it out of context. I didn't say you need 50zł on average, I said it's a minimum (why do I have to explain it to everyone, wasn't that clear?)

ok, then, nightlife ~ 200zł - ....

apparenty, you cannot have a good fun without much money.

I suppose you can but it is hard unless you plan to have a quiet evening in!

You can actually make quite a decent living out of teaching English privately as a native speaker - I believe this has been discussed on another thread.

renting a flat ~ 1000 - 2000zł per month

That's 413 - 825 USD according to a website. That's a great price.
