And to answer Grzegorz, the fact that racism in Poland is "simply true" is simply relevant to me, so that's what.

And why should anyone care ?

I like Ukrainians ;)

cool, me too, although some of them, like in other nations could be troublesome - eg. Mayor of Kiev had a physical fight with some Ukrainin politician a couple of days ago;( - those boys are really funny;)

have a good trip. I find that when you travel, you meet a lot of nice people if you have a right attitue and curiosity about the country.

I think some like (I know some Ukrainians) and I am sure that some don't like Poles like Grzegorz don't like them ... all in all we are neighbours ;-) with long history ;-)))

When I have been to Ukraine they were very positve and much more hospital than people in Wilno ...

Hi there,

Came across this forum via google.

I my self, well, i wouldnt say I was worried in any way, just a little cautious. Im an Asian currently living in the UK (born and bred). Im currently in my final year of high school, about to go to university and am looking at Poland as an option to study abroad. I will be applying for the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow.

So this means I will be in Poland for some 5/6 years. Now i know racism is ripe in the world today and I will be one to admit it is in the UK too, even where I live in Leeds (some areas).

My reason for going to that particular university is due to a recommendation made by a colleague of my mums who is Sudanese. He went to the same medical school and said he would highly recommend it.

I my self being Asian (Pakistani Decent) am very light skinned with darkish brown hair so i wouldnt say i fit the appearance of an asian well lool. I would say any one that I meet that I do not know will assume im either Spanish, Italian or Iranian in some cases.

I just would like to know, since ive never been to Krakow, and could possibly spend the next 6 years of my life there, i wanted to know what sort of a city it is, if it similar to the cities that many people talk about where if your not white you will end up in a few brawls =/. I mean the polish people I know here are great. A good friend of my mums is Polish. In Leeds, we have a big Polish population and a lot of Polish shops, and when ever I go their to buy a drink or something, the people seem real nice.

If Krakow is like that, im sure ill love it

the stuff you come up with some times G:)

Don't deny... Why did you want to meet... ?

manic,
the best way to get a feel for it is to go there for a short period of time and see for yourself.
The plane connections are cheap and weekend in Krakow would be my choice in your situation.

I wanted to meet for a friendly drink, I am not denying anything. Besides, I am not into younger boys. Geez. You need to be less suspicious of people's motives G. We are both from Szczecin and I though that it would be OK - but I guess you took it the wrong way, which is really fine with me. I meet all kinds of people and this would be nothing different. That is all.

Honestly that video posted in the first post (the Ross Kemp) ive seen that programme when it first aired here. It did not put me off one bit.

Its plain and simple, racism is alive every where. Whether you are a Black/Brown guy in the UK/US/Germany/Russia/Poland where ever, or a White guy in Jamaica/West Indies etc.

As far as the video goes, it doesnt seem very different to the hooligans in the UK. In Poland it might be a little more extreme, but as for the UK, the so called "Firms" of football will pretty much behave the same way.

In the UK, ive never really had a big problem with racism, since I dont look Asian. But i mean whats amusing, the times I have had some sort of abuse at me is when some one thought I was Spanish or Italian and have directed Spanish/Italian hate remarks.

- It is. You've got nothing to fear in Poland, hopefully as much as Poles don't have anything to fear in Pakistan or 'ethnic' areas in UK.

Good luck.

Manic you won't have a bad time if you are just visiting because you likely won't see or notice many things that go on. If you are here for a long time you will notice pervasive racism. As a southwest asian you will be lumped in with arabs and be the butt of terrorist jokes and suspicion by many behind your back. Of course this happens other places too but this is a Polish forum thus the focus.

Puzzler is in complete denial of the realities in Poland (Miranda posted a great thread about this denial)

Just don't take any crap off anyone and enjoy the time you spend here.

- Like hell we are. But I can see you yourself don't know much about the history, including what's going on in Ukraine right now - the UPA cult, such as memorials to the UPA serial killers of Poles, savage Polonophobia, and the like. Have you heard the utterances of some Ukrainian organizations active in Poland? I mean the hate, the revisionism.... But you prefer not to know it and babble about being 'neighbours,' liking (all) Ukrainians and the like, right? Read what about the Polish-Ukrainian history has to say Mr Poliszczuk, the Canada-based Ukrainian historian (educated in Poland), an honest, courageous and truthful man, maybe then you will open your eyes? By the way, are you an avid reader Mr Michnik's Gazeta Wyborcza?

Puzzer I know Ukrainias. There is a lot of them on our Univerisites ... I don't care about old pr!cks ;) what will happen when everybody in Poland will hate all Ukrianians and all Ukrainians will hate Poles.

Puzzler should change his name to "Victim" as he is good at playing one. Waahhh...everyone hates the Poles and they are all mean people.

You must be taking the p!ss as nobody could really be this much of a nutter.

- And the above is another yet utterance by the racist Polonophobic and hypocritical creep calling himself jones101. It is him who has been spitting out hate against Poles in this forum, under the guise of human rights defender. A real wolf in sheep's clothing. Give evidence of this alleged 'pervasive racism' of Poles in this forum, or elsewhere. What is your own country and nationality? I bet racism against Poles is thousand times worse amongst your lot than among Poles towards any one. You should be kicked out of Poland for your Polonophobia and racism, slanderous creep.

See? Anyone that says something he disagrees with or is critical of his homeland is a polonophobe.

Black and white this one....

He thinks he can demand things of the very same people he is railing on...funny to read his ranting...gives me a good chuckle.

As far as me being kicked out...sorry bubba...you don't control that end of things so fantasize all you wish :)

and such attitues make the relationships better. It is good the the new generation is not stuck in the past and is living the present.

Puzzler, you are not even living in Poland, so your experiance about Polish-Ukrainin relationship at present is, I would say very limited and your negative attitude is not adding anything constructive. Besides, with such views as yours, nobody takes you seriously. Just so you know:)

- Sure that when a type like yourself spreads hateful lies about my nation I disagree with it and call you a Polonophobe.

Got it, racist Polonophobe?

So what's your country and nationality? Afraid to divulge your sweet secret?
:)
