Jaywalking in Poland ?

I agree with you .... it appears you took due care and attention when crossing the road. I always thought jaywalking was crossing the road without any consideration for traffic ...

its such a stupid fine. if u cross in the zebra against a light, its 250zl.

but if u just jaywalk its 75zl.

go figure. :S

everytime we talk about this....i think of that crosswalk scene in Harold and Kumar go to WhiteCastle.

Sorry Most, what I was alluding to was the fact that we all can feel a bit hard done by when we get fined, especially if we feel the fine is unfair. I just felt it shouldn't have affected your view of the area. One policeman does not make up the character of the place and you mentioned something about not investing or spending any money there.

Yes I agree it's petty and illogical - but in that respect it is like the Policeman and besides it makes me feel better.

My first and preferred reaction would be to write to the local paper, but there isn't any Dziennik Kutnowskie or similar.

Am I being petty here. If it is OK for a pedestrian to cross an empty road does that make it OK for me to drive through a red light when the road is clear.

A month ago a child was hit by a car near my house. The crossing was twenty metres away. I wonder if his mother would agree with the above, negative, posters. The zebra crossing is there for a reason.

You are not being petty but you are being thick.

It is obvious that a car going through a red light could cause more damage than a pedestrian. Stopping distance for a car going 50km is about 30m. Stopping distance for a pedstrian travelling 6km an hour is erm 1 metre.

I remember when I got fined for speeding (first and only time) I felt utter indignation at first, was going to write with every excuse I could think of but then I accepted it as fair play.

After all, it was the only time I had got caught and I'm sure like many others in the UK, you end up speeding a bit every day and get away with it.

I've only been to Poland once and never realised you could get fined for jaywalking. No one told me about it at the time. Good job I didn't walk around on my own on Poland's streets :)

And that's the whole point isn't it. Cars don't go through red lights so you shouldn't try to cross the road in the wrong place. Otherwise you could end up dead.
