I was just wondering if this would be cheaper in poland, we have family there and drive over form england 2 times per year, my partner (is polish) hasnt got round to calling the garage yet but is it likely it will be much cheaper??

we have 2001 plate audi a4 and we have a quote for 1000 pounds ( an a/c specialist not audi) to flush out the system (its contaminated) and replace the compressor and drier. . . its the system clean which will cost a lot in labour as its can take hours (im told).

any one have any experience / knowledge.?? cheers =)

holy crap, a 1000 pounds? ouch.. that's highway robbery, imho. you may want to get your dude a set of hand tools and have him get on it.

I replaced the compressor on my 7 series bmw last year and it cost me less than £400 all in,

Did it just seize or stop working, it usually costs around £60 tops to flush and recharge the a/c system as I've had it done on several car's I have owned. As for the pump there are loads on ebay brand new for around £300,

DO NOT under any circumstances try to do it yourself as A/C coolant is highly toxic and very dangerous if not disposed of properly, It's a maximum of 2 hours work and assuming the garage charge 75 pln per hour £400 should see it done easily.

I hate rip off back street polish garages as soon as they realise you are from overseas they try to rip you off, I got quoted £350 for a service on my car but decided to take it to a mitsubishi main dealer as it cost me 450 pln.

It might be worth giving Audi a call as they will more than likely be cheaper than that.

i highly disagree. it's not a big deal but one has to follow proper procedure of capturing and refilling. i've done a few in my life and i am still here. it's only toxic to the stupid.
