Are Polish People Racist?

I'm going to through my thoughts into the fray.

Racism, is essential a reaction. It is the fear of the "other". The "other" being not us, not our cultural and historical reality. The writer Francis Fanon, put forward the concept of black emancipation and through his writings he investigated the concept of the other.

If through identifying another racial group as closer to animals than ourselves, the result is two fold, firstly we raise ouselves closer to "God" and push the "other"closer to the beast.

"And God gave man dominion over the beasts". So in doing so we could justify the subjegation of the other for our own needs, master slave relationship.

The main slave traders we the Catholic Portuguese, Spainish, the protestant English and Dutch and the Muslim Arabs. Both who's relgions come from similar male dominated roots. Which is another history, i.e the domination of Men or women.

So returning to racism and the "fear of the other".
The barbarian, or the savage are animals to be quelled and used by the master.

So this legacy is now so ingrained in world conciousness, that everywhere we turn we have to deal with it in some form or the other. Whether it is institutional, economical, or reverse racsim, it is in our everyday lives. Relgion is a great tool to hide the racist attitudes of the nations, it is acceptble to fight in the name of God, but not in the name of one's race.

So are the Polish more or less racist than anyone else? I doubt it. It is important to realise that the catholic church encourages nationalistic passions and these can be crudely reconstructed as racist attitudes, they are not, they are political will being exercised through the ignorance of the masses for political gain, they are not true racist values.

People will always fear what they do not understand, and this fear will always be exploited by the powers that be. Slavery is official gone though in practise economic slavery is very much alive, the capitalist system which uses " any means neccessary, will always encourage racist ideology because it maintains the status quo and again is a blind, a distraction from the main game, which is the economic struggle of the classes.

To have rich people you needed to have poor people. Blimey I must come across as a Marxist!!

Not sure how the quote thing works on this forum, so just pasted the text above - I particularly 'enjoyed' this tidbit above, because I couldn't agree more. I grew up in Australia - I'm 34 now, moved to the Netherlands when I was 16. People ask me in amazement - "what on Earth are you doing here in Holland?!!"

I think Holland is a wonderful country - I'm also very European minded - a four hour drive south and I'm in Belgium - an hour or so later I'm in Paris. Same thing when I drive East - Germany - 9 hours Switserland, Luxembourg etc. I feel like I'm living in a geographical hotspot :]

I'm also learning a few things about racism here. I'm feeling quite ignorant... But remember, racism is everywhere - a 'darkskinned' [gosh, what do I call her?] friend of mine, was of a lighter colour than her siblings, she was quite striking and earned a living for a while as a model - her sisters had always teased her for 'being lighter than them'. My fathers girlfriend who comes from Suriname and has an Indian appearance - she's muslim - told me how racist people in Suriname are.

As for Polish people - I know a few Polish people here in Holland - and they are the most lovely guys I know - I have developed a deep admiration for the Polish, for their strengh and determination and also, Polish people are hearty and have a great sense of humor. As I have learned firsthand - Poles find a foreigner announcing "****!" in badly accented Polish pretty amusing.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe it doesn't bother others as much as it does you? Why post this in a POLISH forum. Don't you think this would be more effective in a UK forum?

I was actually wondering the same thing - I've noticed some harrassing by 'guests' posting messages like: "we don't want you" etc.

In Holland the estimates are that 30.000 Polish people will come to work here and I say Welcome! Very pleased about it. We are all part of the European community, it's good for the Dutch economy, as for the Polish economy - and the fact that most Polish are Roman-Catholics is wonderful too.

I dont think, thats too many. Polish ppl went so willing to UK because almost everyone here speak english. When we joined EU there was about 25% of unemployment in Poland and now it is 15%, there are not so many ppl willing to go abroad now especially to not english speaking country. In fact polish factories complain a lot because of lack of unqualified workers who would like to work in factories that are growing in bigger cities very fast.....

that's why they "import" those ppl from former soviet union to exploit them here ....

They will not want to come and work for 1000 zlotys. I think that employers have no choice, they have to start paying better or move on to another country......

This was an estimated figure written in a Dutch Newspaper at the beginning of the year. Don't forget, many people from all over Europe come to Holland - there's a lot seasonal work here...

Nearly all Dutch people speak [at least] English here, many speak German and/or French as well - the Dutch aim to please :]

Why the holocaust memorials in USA? They built an expensive one in Boston. Thats stupid, like America building a Pearl Harbor memorial in South Africa. There is no place for that stuff here.

Oh BTW a Polish shop has just opened in the most Jewish area there is in North Manchester...so it would seem the Polish over in the UK dont mind mingling with them...

There are many holocaust memorials and museums all over the U.S. rightfully so!
That way we and our children can be reminded about the terrible atrocities of the
past so they will never be repeated.

i think it's cos most of the jews lived there-not because Poles did it.remember it were GERMANS who did it!!!!poland was the most tolerant country (religion-wise) in europe before ww2.the jews were persecuted almost everywhere in europe that's why they settled in poland.

german's propaganda and russian's after the war told some poor and stupid peasants that everything what's wrong in the world and some idiots followed it.remember that hundred of thousands of poles died in concentration camps across poland and a lot of those who helped or hid the jews.

personally i have a great respect for this interesting,intelligent people and support them in their fight for freedom

Poles are racist only in case of black people and even that is changing, there's no hostility (exept few real punks) against Hindu or Asians (there's many Vietnames in PL) and anti-Arabism or anti-pakism is not racism, that's rather a rational behavior.

Amahryst Poland is the last country you could accuse of Jews treatment. Look at France, Italy and Germany. In fact before II WW there were about 6 millons Jews living in Poland (I could be wrong though) and it was the biggest amount in Europe. This is why Hitler placed his death camps in our country. Polish people risked their and their families lives helping Jews during II WW while France insead of help send them to camps in Poland.....

hey no dis on u but, what you say aint true... polish ppl rn't racist! Poland is a totaly diffrent country than canada, and me being polish i understand why its diffrent! Poland has a toatly diffrent goverment then canada or the u.s. does so hence there diffrent attitude. goverment and any liberal thing can have an impact on a persons way of life. And for what you say I find that rly affensive not all polish ppl r raccist maby its just ur family. no offence but i think thats how they role man
